You coulda bought my car, it was up on craigslist a while back but havent updated cuz it's basically sold.
It was a wagon with a B230ft motor, butt dyno put it at around 270hp. It was a fun car, time to build my own

Yes, the NW crew.

I would still like to find an 850R wagon one day. In red and manual transmission

Guy I bought my car from replaced it with a black T5-r wagon, he's doing a manual swap now, or it's been swapped

I thought material wise, the cost of swapping a Ford V8 into a 240 is pretty low (probably much lower than swapping engines of civics/nissan etc).. since there are plenty of wrecked Mustangs.. get one, swap out and that's done.

Technically it is pretty straightforward too since 2xx and 7/9xx the engine bays are HUGE!

skyxx 08-17-2009 10:20 PM

Bahahah "Kardboard" looks like he was in an AutoX with the cones.

ilvtofu 08-17-2009 10:20 PM

Lol he's looking backwards and parking in the stall though

skyxx 08-17-2009 10:22 PM

5 spd turbos are hard to find.....

Wagons are cool........(duh, obviously)

RWD FTW

Check out what I just found:

loaded, s/r, good colour, body looks solid

Only neg. is the mileage is getting close to up there.

Just bought an E30 BMW, so no Volvo for me... My gf, on the other hand, wants to get a volvo as a beater car for school/groceries.

+Kardboard+ 09-01-2009 01:41 PM

Don't be afraid of higher mileage, as 200,000 is good for these cars. Any lower, then you also run the risk of it having certain seals hardening up due to lack of use. I found that out with my 120k car. Stay away from whiteblocks (960s) as they can be a hassle, 760s after 1988 are a GREAT deal, redblocks (240s/740s/940s) will last forever, especially 1990+ ones, and 850s are good.....but the maintenance costs are significantly higher as much more labour is needed to get them fixed.

www.brickboard.com is a great resource, especially if you're looking into getting an older RWD brick as the site will tell you some of the stuff to look out for.

Your girlfriend needs a Volvo. It is her destiny. :lol

sonick 09-01-2009 01:44 PM

^awesome, thanks for the tips.

+Kardboard+ 09-01-2009 05:53 PM

No problemo. Happy brick hunting.

Higher mileage and you will see crumbling wiring harnesses.

I patched mine about a dozen times before giving up. A new one was going to cost me too much.

red block motor had at least 360,000km on it ( odometer didnt work ) and it could have gone another 50k easy

also, thanks to volvo for making non-interference engines :D break a timing belt and no catastrophe !

+Kardboard+ 09-01-2009 09:50 PM

Not THAT high of course hahahahaha :lol

You had an 850 though, no?

EDIT:

Just for kicks, here's Devsbeater's early 90s 240 with an SR20DET swap....it also is used for drifting right here in beautiful British Columbia. :D

i have a video of the exhaust somewhere....the idle was so lumpy a few people have asked if i had an aftermarket cam in there :lol

Wow, i didn't expect so many volvo lovers on this site. I have a 96 850 turbo. Great car to drive and not too bad to drive 10 km/l as long as you don't floor it too hard. I have thought about getting a new ECU. Too bad it's not a simple flash, instead it seems like there has to be some soldering and resoldering of the chip. Which i'm not too comfortable with. Would be nice to get a little bit more power.

+Kardboard+ 09-02-2009 12:10 PM

Yeah, swapping the ECU and chipping it seems to be popular. Not all of them can be chipped.

If you thought 240s were old school.....how about a 1,152 HP Volvo 142 from your grandpa's days? O_____________O It's running the same redblock motor as my car HAHAAHHA

+Kardboard+ 10-24-2009 07:51 PM

LOL nice.

Ping 10-25-2009 04:45 AM

I have a 1998 V70 I bought about 7 months ago with 186,000k on it.

I definitely don't regret it.

I just wish it was a T5, but I like the fuel economy it has now. [/oldfogey]
