it has nothing to do with him being a cop. if it was some regular joe having incestuous sex with his sister, there still would be a publication ban because once you give out his name (unfortunately, accused/guilty parties still have some personal privacy given to them), you, by inference, give out the name of his sister (the victim) and that's a real invasion of HER privacy.

furthermore, it's not the police necessarily that are withholding the cop's name. it's the judge that issued the publication ban. happens more often than not in sexual assault cases where the victim and the accused know one another or are related in some way...

as for being on paid administrative leave, he has yet to be proven guilty... but this seems pretty much open/shut... if you believe the sister (but she would have no real reason to lie).

The7even 08-16-2009 05:33 PM

You guys are so right to bash the cops. When they do something wrong , we need to hold all of them accountable.

How fucking dare they have human flaws? I say we burn them at the stake.

StylinRed 08-16-2009 05:59 PM

Human flaws are like leaving the milk carton out or not taking the trash out.

Fucking your passed out sister kinda goes beyond a human flaw

People choose to become LEOs right? Would you not expect someone familiar with the law to be held to a higher standard?

LEOs do have the power to arrest and they do carry weapons, would you not want that person to abide by the laws they choose to uphold?

When LEOs let their human flaws get in the way of them properly doing their jobs there is a potential for people to die. Their position in our society requires them, how unfair it may be, to always act professionally. With the amount of difficulty to get into the profession and the amount of training they receive, of course they should be held to a higher standard.

I would agree that burning them at the stake is going overboard. But it is in society's best interest that LEOs that commit crimes are processed by the system just like everyone else. This way people will at least have some faith in the justice system, no matter how flawed it is.

Since most of you are too ignorant to understand ill explain it .

I didn't say "hey, lets give him a slap on the wrist". What I was hinting at with that sarcastic sentence was your tendency to yell out fuck the cops as soon as one of them does something. Furthermore, most of you hold them to impossible standards. You tie their hands and then criticize them for whenever anything goes wrong. You're all quick to bash them for the slightest thing that does awry but not once do you stop to think that maybe they're human.

Yes, the cop in this case is in the wrong but we don't need your hypocritical bullshit unfairly painting all officers of the law under the same light as this guy.
Most of you spend your time hunting jail bait pics on RS anyway.

Lastly, the point I was trying to make is , shut the fuck up, it's one man, his profession happens to be Law enforcement, the issues he had and who he was before becoming a police officer did not change upon receiving the badge. So crucify the man, I don't care, but don't crucify the whole department. Morons.

Edit: The insults in my reply were not directed at you specifically , SeanJohn, but rather the whole RS community as a whole.

 @ this thread.

This thread is really about "anti-police" than it is "anti-incest".

iEatClams 08-17-2009 02:22 AM

I'm not a cop-hater or anything. I think the majority of cops are great people.

My only beef with police officers is that when they CLEARLY fucked up, they don't get fired, but instead get suspension, with PAY, wasting tax payers dollars. Why not fire them? This will send a message that they are not above the law and can be punished as well.

I think what's happening is that when a cop turns out to be a bad apple, and he's not punished appropriately, the public believes that there must be more bad apples in the force that are protecting "their own", and thus the entire reputation of the force goes down with the few bad cops.

Now, if they were to fire the cop, and then clearly state that this behaviour will not be tolerated and that this is not what the force stands for, and that anyone who does not represent the image of the force will be severely punished, then they might change their reputation as good cops that don't defend bad ones.

When they're not punishing the bad cops, it ruins the entire departments reputation.

The other problem is that there are too many cop-haters that will get hyped up everytime a cop doesn't something that can be intrepreted as incorrect behaviour and start bashing cops for nothing. Cops are human, and can make mistakes.

Then you got the Pig nut huggers and family of police officers that defend cops to their grave, even though some cops are fucking wrong. Yes, they're human, and can make mistakes, but sometimes it's just clear that they clearly fucked up big time. If you think the job is too tough, then don't apply.

Like honestly, if they can't do their job properly, fire them and hire a better one, don't bring down the reputation of the force because of a few dumbasses.

Improving the reputation of police officers also inspires more kids to become police officers. They need to bring back that "we're the good guys" image and kinda change their brand. Right now not many people want to become officers and its obvious a larger % of the new recruits are dumbasses because they have a shittier selection of candidates.

StylinRed 08-17-2009 02:46 AM

when a gangsters girlfriend gets caught in the crossfire you..(cop lovers?) say "well they wanted to be a part of the life they should accept the consequences.... fuck em"

Now when the police protect their own after its known they've comitted crimes by either trying to keep things under wraps, or drawing out the time period of investigations to the point that they hope people forget about it, or downright concealing the facts....

then yes... they are no better than the guy raping his sister or the officer who drinks, drives and crashes, or the officers that beat someone to death in stanley park, or the officers that beat a bystander up, etc, etc, etc, etc

edit: i have to add there are good cops out there.... but i dont feel they outnumber the bad ones like they used to

hotjoint 08-17-2009 08:15 AM

I think your perception is a tad skewered.

Cops ARE subject to consequences for offences like DUI, drunken & disorderly behaviour, or incest. However, they're just not the extreme extent of termination of one's career or occupation or automatic jailtime.

However, despite popular belief, cops do pay the same penalty, if not more for crimes of a grievous nature. So I say, despite the anti-authoritarian hype, I wonder if people have the capacity to put things into perspective here.

They don't quite compare.

Example 1. Most of the time, girls who are attracted to that certain lifestyle are so for material benefits of an economical and social standing.

Example 2. Occurs not for any economical or social benefits but one of professional solidarity.

nns 08-17-2009 09:07 AM

Seriously, kids on RS need to step back. This ain't a rap video, it's not cool to flaunt how much you supposedly hate cops.

I make cop jokes here and there, but I don't let jokes, popular culture, and especially the experiences of others dictate what I truly think of the police.
Some of you kids out there need to sit and think before you run your mouth. This is what happens when you quit HS in Gr.9, you turn into an idiot like Ricky from Trailer Park Boys and make stupid statements.

Thanks to The7even. I'm tired of bandwagoning kiddies hopping all onboard the hate train for cops when they don't even know what they really hate about them. I have such a strong suspicion that 90% of the kids out there don't have any valid reason to thumb their noses to the police, but do it simply because that's how their highschool 'dai-lo' feels. If you're going to hate on something, the very least you could do is have the right reasons for it.

I'm not a pro-cop guy, I just don't like bandwagoners who like to sound big on the internet, but wouldn't have the balls to make a peep in person, making stupid arguments and blacklisting a whole police dept. for the actions of a few.

RCMP has some deep rooted corporate cultural problems and hiring practices. I'm not the only one who agrees, check out this article in Macleans - Why the RCMP are in ruins

+ 1, this is exactly what I've been trying to say. The corporate culture and brand image of the RCMP is fucked right now. They need to change their reputation and attract better recruits + and implement new policies. I know people don't like change, but in this case change is needed.

Anyone that's been to any post secondary knows that companies come do recruiting events to attract TOP TALENT. Unfortunately for the RCMP, most of the talented people would rather be working somewhere else.

Noir 08-18-2009 08:47 AM

^ Are you guys really just reaching to find any justification to keep fuelling your anti-police sentiments?

First people say police are brutes with Barbarian cultures and when that is responded to, now you're saying Corporate Culture? Like that's not any true of any professional entity of a grande scale. Ideal or not.

Hiring Practices? You make it seem like any nutcase can walk into an RCMP detachment, hand in his resume devoid of any qualifications, and be hired. If so, I believe imaginations are running wild at this point.

Brand Image? <--- WTF lol. Do people really think that the police should reprioritize their focus to image? Their image is fine. It's only idiots whose education is primarily derived from TV and Music who's convinced that police are what they are.

Instead of taking what they see from rappers and they're music videos. Why don't people try a social experiment. Why not go up to a random police officer and bother them for a minute or two asking for directions. Or plainly just chatting them up.

Second, see what the difference is in polic interaction when you either disturb the peace, or endange the public. I wonder if people can make the distinction on reactions?

ecchiecchi 08-18-2009 10:25 AM

There could be a thread about a cop who single handedly stops an Al-Queda attack while rescuing a bus full of disabled children from being burned alive just moments after he finds a cure for cancer and people here would still turn it into an anti-cop thread.
