My crappy looking engine :(

Going to try and restore some life into this engine, i think a simple damp terry towel will do wonders... my how the dust has collected

Anyone recommend some painting products? I'm thinking of doing a lot of it in black, but i don't know what's safe to use

Looking crappy

Lol if i do i'll probably swap in a new tranny too and that'll set me back at least 4k... It would be really cool though, but I'm a high school student working part time... yeah... If i still have the car 10 years from now and have money I'll definitely do it

So does stuff like the engine paint from cambodian tire work for most parts?

try to shampoo your engine bay first and see which one needs TLC

EDIT: After shampooing,

Get some APC from Ken (whichever one you prefer or who recommends) and give it a go. Then you'll really see what your engine bay is like. After that then decide to paint it or not.

Thanks for the advice, i gave that little red bit a scrub and it already looks better, but the dust just collects so i don't know, best option is never to open the hood again

Obviously APC is All Purpose. So depends on what. But I feel like being helpful so here.

Tires

Hose it down, then I spray on liberally, let it soak for a bit. After I scrub the tire down with my Meguiars Tire Brush. After it's been scrubbed it will be ready for tire dressing or whatever you want to throw on there. A lot of people complain about sling from tire dressing, most of it's because the tires not prepped or to much is applied.

Wheels
Hose it down, then I spray on liberally, depending on how bad the wheels are I may let it sit for a bit. After I go over it with whatever brush I use, After all the debris and brake dust is off, I just rinse it off after everythings been scrubbed down.

Fuel Filler
Hose it down, then soak the area liberally. Go over it with a brush and sometimes even a sponge if it's really bad. After I just rinse it off.

Engine
I get it wet with the lowest setting on the pressure washer. I use a pressure washer instead of a hose to get the engine wet because the pressure washer sprays water with air, where as a hose is just straight water. So the less water in there the better. Then once it's wet I soak everything liberally with APC. Then I go over everything with a brush. After I think it's a thorough job I spray it off with a pressure washer. After that I immediately dry the engine with my leaf blower on the highest setting. Getting into all the nooks and crannies and where electronics are. After that the engines ready to get some protectant/dressing on.

Like I said theres many more uses for APC but thats the general stuff. I usually use my APC diluted 3 Parts water to 1 Part APC.

Sprayed 3 things, intake hose, some random piece of plastic? XD i know nothing, and the thing behind the fan thing...

And scrubbed the red a bit, looks slightly better, but i think I should do something with the red bit.

This paint dries fast too,

Didn't mask my car at all, that was risky since paint was black and car is white... I will next time lol, I was standing there holding the spray paint wondering what is safe to spray... those were the 3 things i figured would be safeish, Didn't wanna get it on the moving parts etc.

Wonder if the rad hose is safe?

buy some engine rubber and vinyl restore. It should gloss up everything nicely rather then painting. It might crack and look worse if u paint it.
Personally for the valve cover i would paint it.

Dont spray directly into your dizzy cap (distributor).

My advice, cover up what you dont want to get wet, spray an all purpose cleaner liberally over the whole engine, lightly mist it, just so it doesnt dry while you scrub it down. rinse off with the hose, use an airgun attactment to dry the engine bay, when dry use a rubber protectant spray and spray only the rubber items.

Trust me on this one, it might look good if you cover the whole engine bay with it, because everything will have this nice glossy shine, but if you ever have to work in your engine bay, it makes everything a mess.

He will probably want to start off with a RWD platform VQ35 from either an R50 pathfinder or Z33 350Z/G35.

Would be cool though. If he already has a VG30ET in it already, may as well toss a VG30DETT in there to keep it simple, or RB26

DETTs are too much hassle, RB26 of course but they are $$,
And maybe keeping it V6 would be nice. I'm sure there are tons of junked pathfinders in the states though I'll go search
