the R4DS is a game cart that has a microSD card in it, you buy the R4DS with a micro SD then you just download the emulator which is just like a pack of files you unzip onto the microSD, then you just use torrents download SNES roms and voila! your playing SNES games
although from what ive been reading R4DS is pretty dated now and some of the newer chips can play gameboy advanced games etc.
i was looking forward to playing Earthbound 2 on my DS but unfortunately the R4DS cannot do gameboy advanced games
