How do you insure a bike? do they have VIN numbers or w.e?
I mean wouldn't insurance fraud be incredibly simple?

Yes, bikes have VIN numbers.
The lock that he had (Krytonite as in Superman fame) has a guarenty on their locks that if the bike is stolen with the lock being used, they will pay XXXX amount of money based on which series of lock you buy. Higher the series, higher the payout.

You can insure bikes, and they do have a Serial stamped on the frame. Its usually under the bottom bracket.

I think the CL poster was talking about the insurance given by Kryptonite locks though, cause they do cover up to a certain amount if their locks are broken and your bike is stolen.
