Has anyone of you done this?

I bought a xbox games as a gift, however, the person already has that specific game. I wanted to return it back to futureshop, but i have lost the receipt.

Has anyone tried to return a game that is unopened back to FS/BB without a receipt?

Game is: Gears of War 2

or do i have to write this off as a $70 life lesson?

cdizzle_996 08-22-2009 01:49 PM

Nope, take it to walmart and say you lost the receipt. I can almost guarantee they'll take it back.

tiger_handheld 08-22-2009 01:57 PM

@cdizzle - i dont know if walmart sells gears of war :\

Geenius 08-22-2009 02:01 PM

why wouldnt they..........

50akaFerrariF50 08-22-2009 02:04 PM

you could make it a $20 by selling it off craigslist

TheKingdom2000 08-22-2009 03:12 PM

walmart will give you a store credit.they don't give you cash back anymore.

how did you pay for the game? credit card/debit? bring in your statement, they'll take it back.. but for store credit only.. not as cash.

ZhangFei 08-22-2009 03:27 PM

don't wanna sound like a jerk but your story sound kinda shady man.

twitchyzero 08-22-2009 03:30 PM

if you bought it by CC bring your statement in and they can process the return
or else you're gonna have to argue with them for 15 min only to have store credits back.

Happened to me once and it sucked...now I keep all my receipts for a full year lol

tiger_handheld 08-22-2009 03:38 PM

Went to Futureshop, they said I can bring in my CC statement and I can get a store credit. Gonna do that..

@ZhangFei - atleast its not an EA scam ;)

lesson learned:
1) always ask for a gift receipt
2) keep receipts until past 30days.

tonyvu 08-22-2009 05:21 PM

why not buy him a gift card from future shop? That way he can get what he wants with your money haha

I always keep receipts for at least minimum 1 year. :) But yeah the CC statement is good. :)

winson604 08-22-2009 05:30 PM

Gears is still $70? lol

Gh0stRider 08-22-2009 06:40 PM

sell it on CL

impactX 08-22-2009 07:10 PM

Why not get the receipt from your friend?

tiger_handheld 08-22-2009 07:31 PM

nah, ill just exchange it for store credit (aka gift card) and give it to him to buy w/e he wants...

i bought it for him. i should've gotten a gift receipt but the futureshop cashier was new n she had a hard time doing everything so i didnt bother.. and he was going on about this game so i figured it was a good purchase...

Not applicable here, but Home Depot has a mint return policy. Every once in awhile I just grab all the unused shit from my truck and throw it on their desk. Five minutes later I walk away with beautiful store credit.

nosaj 08-23-2009 07:46 PM

^what if the stuff are more expensive at the time u purchased them?

coz if u dont have ur receipt, then they can only give u store credits of the stuff based on current price...

u'll fuck urshelf in the ass if u try to return some power tools while they are on sale/ clearance and u cant prove that u bought them at org prices :D

Usually its just options shit. If I'm going to a job where I don't know what exactly I'll need, I just pick up everything and return what I don't use. Huge plus for Home Depot allowing me to do that.

return it to costco or walmart.
costco is the easiest in terms of not having a receipt

ilvtofu 08-23-2009 10:46 PM

^damn even costco is getting stricter on the returns, i think they have a 90 day policy in the states, Don't know about here, too many ppl taking advantage of them i guess, makes it harder for them to offer great prices for the good ppl out there... Seen people return a mattress that was all crooked cause of some fatass sleeping on it. Especially with the ACs too, ppl use them for when they need it and refund it after...

As for future shop, I don't know man, you probably peeled the sticker off too eh? the one with the FS logo and the price? seriously zhangfei is sorta right for once... I mean for all they know you could've stolen it from somewhere else.

EDIT: really didn't want to sound like moral police in this post...

hotjoint 08-24-2009 07:30 AM

walmart takes anything as long as its sealed
