Before, no. Now, they have as much power as true police officers including being able to carry fire arms and TAZERS.

Meowjin 08-24-2009 08:29 PM

well you wouldnt need to use transit if you bought a car.

vancitylove 08-24-2009 08:31 PM

there's transit security and there's transit police.
the transit police are a separate unit from other police agencies

So transit police are the people with guns and tasers?

Gh0stRider 08-24-2009 09:41 PM

transit police = http://www.gvtaps.bc.ca/
aka South Coast British Columbia Transportation Authority Police Service

Yes.

Transit police come from VPD or RCMP.

Gh0stRider 08-24-2009 09:43 PM

they are not vpd or rcmp. they are their own police service.

They also get people who use to be sheriffs at the court houses.

They have just as much power as a regular police officer but are multi jurisdictional so a transit police officer driving on the highway can pull someone over and give them a traffic ticket.

BNR32_Coupe 08-24-2009 09:51 PM

i notice nobody takes them seriously.. i see people ripping it by their charger squad cars all the time, and the transit police themselves dont care. but when its even just an unmarked crown vic with nobody inside it, people turn into angels

skyxx 08-24-2009 09:54 PM

Cause the "Dark Knight" is scarier than the ones visible. :)

True, Transit Security have no powers and they do have those odd looking Dodge Chargers .

I have to disagree with the Transit Police no carring about idiotic drivers . 2 weeks ago while stopped at the intersection , told some Transit Police guys sitting in their squad car about some dangerous driver down Granville and 2 blocks down the road they had the guy pulled over and handcuffed. Pretty nice to know that I helped.

I was getting onto the skytrain at lougheed mall and saw one of them smoking a cigarette outside the station. Found it a bit odd.

2damaxmr2 08-24-2009 10:51 PM

they use Glock 17
which is fairly inaccurate when it is in stock form.

At what distance?

I highly doubt the inaccuracy is due to the gun so much as the user. If it was "inaccurate", what makes you think that a huge percent of all police forces uses this particular sidearm?

AutozamAZ-3 08-24-2009 11:12 PM

transit police don't just book people who don't have a ticket, their job is to keep skytrain stations safe.

do you know how sketchy it is around the skytrain at 1 am? i know i'm glad feeling that i'm a little bit safer knowing that there are police around.

Not what my officer friends tell me. The GVTAPS guys are super BORED all the time. They specifically pull over the people who think they dont care. Alot of the young guys jump ship to other Munis because they want more excitement.

+1

My friend was playing his PSP on the skytrain late at night, and there were only him and this crackhead in the train. The crackhead starts talkin to my friend, asking shit about the PSP, and then asks if he can give it a try. My friend said no, and the crackhead pulls out a knife on him. Good thing my friend has a switchblade and pulls it out as well. He got off immediately at the next station and contacted transit security, which arrested the guy several stations after.

I'm definitely glad there are police around.

I hope your friend was only trying to intimidate the crackhead into backing off. No one wins in a knife-on-knife fight.

stock or modded, if some guy pointed a Glock at my head, I would shit my pants. I'm not gonna call on it being inaccurate.

It's legal to carry certain knives around.
