Anyone here in the Canadian Armed Forces?

Is anyone here in the Canadian Armed Forces? If so, what has your experience been like?

I graduate from BCIT next June. To ensure that I get a job in my field I'm thinking of joining the CAF because they are in need of people from my program.

What is the minimum time you have to serve for? What is the training like, etc. Training is for eight months?

I like to stay in shape, so the idea of serving in the forces appeals to me. The idea of being part of a brotherhood appeals to me to and I love Canada as well.

The things that worry me are of course having to leave a big city I've always called home to go to a small town. And, in the process, being lonely. I don't have many close friends anymore and am single so I am really lonely as it is. You'd think that moving away wouldn't matter because of that, but I still think I'd miss my family.

I would want to live in the housing they have on base, but there are a million complaints/horrors stories online about them - mold, etc.

Also, what are the odds I'd be able to meet a new girlfriend while I'm serving? That's another one of my fears; not being able to find someone and returning home when I'm 31 or 32, if I choose to be discharged, and being single still. I'll be 27 next summer.
The person who came to our school said we are trained for 8 months, stationed in Edmonton to work for one year, and after that can be deployed. What could I expect my social life to be like before I'm deployed?

if you answer what trade you'd be applying for/specializing in, in the CF i could help you answer that.

the trade you pick affects your "military career" a lot.
