Alternator once again When I first bought the car 3 months ago (1990 integra gs) the alternator was pushing out weird voltages just before dieing. I put a new alternator in the car and its always been weird too. At first when I would rev the engine past 4500rpm the lights would get crazy bright (same with alt #1) but now after the car has been running for awhile, the lights get really bright as low as 2000rpm. I checked the voltage and its putting out 14.2v at idle, and 18.5volts around 4000rpm and the stereo shuts down. Why would 2 alternators both do the same thing?? Is there somewhere else in the car I should look for the problem?? |
I would assume that the alternator has a built-in voltage regulator, however in that car there could be an external one somewhere? Or maybe you have two bad alternators? |
Bench test the alternators.. sounds like some or all of the diodes in the voltage regulator are shot. |
I may just do that ^^ Hopefully I can find the reciept. Sucks to have to pull the cv just to change an alt. |
external voltage regulator is gone |
For any and all alternator issues I always send people to Edmonds starters. Talk to a guy named Bobby. He is a member on here (bobby_mac I believe) and he has helped many of my customers and RS members. |
do they sell H/O alternator? |
alternators locally are from $240-450 for reman HAHA I'll be heading back to the wreckers for the 19.99 special once an integra comes in. |
