| Alternator once again
When I first bought the car 3 months ago (1990 integra gs) the alternator was pushing out weird voltages just before dieing. I put a new alternator in the car and its always been weird too. At first when I would rev the engine past 4500rpm the lights would get crazy bright (same with alt #1) but now after the car has been running for awhile, the lights get really bright as low as 2000rpm. I checked the voltage and its putting out 14.2v at idle, and 18.5volts around 4000rpm and the stereo shuts down. Why would 2 alternators both do the same thing?? Is there somewhere else in the car I should look for the problem??

I would assume that the alternator has a built-in voltage regulator, however in that car there could be an external one somewhere? Or maybe you have two bad alternators?

Bench test the alternators.. sounds like some or all of the diodes in the voltage regulator are shot.

I may just do that ^^ Hopefully I can find the reciept. Sucks to have to pull the cv just to change an alt.

For any and all alternator issues I always send people to Edmonds starters. Talk to a guy named Bobby. He is a member on here (bobby_mac I believe) and he has helped many of my customers and RS members.
