Nonono, OBVIOUSLY I already discussed everything with my artist! I just wanted more opinions and ideas so I decided to put it up here to see everyone's input, it's not like I knew nothing beforehand and I swear by what people say on the internet

what are your thoughts on putting on saran wrap after getting tattooed? the places I've been to they always put a gauze then tape/wrap it. But my friend is getting one at the Dutchman and apparently they just put saran wrap on directly?

IMO, when it comes to aftercare, do what the artist says. Especially if they are a reputable shop to begin with.

4) Don't let anyone slap or punch that area incase of bruising
5) use Preparation H for faster healing
6) Apply only weak dryskin cream

Also anyone have explainations for any of the above?.. and if the above is true... how LONG do you think is reasonable to do/avoid those certain things for after the tattoo, a few days? A week?

Thanks
4) Someone forgot and slapped this guys brand new tattoo before it healed and "cracked"? the art work. He had to go get it retouched.

^ Haha I saw that too. I just kinda stared blankly at it while zoning out the pain lol!

Anyways here's another mythbusting question I have: Working out.

If you guys had like tats on your arms/chest/shoulder and then you started working out a lot and you get bigger & more muscular. Wouldnt that potentially stretch and distort the original tattoo image?

I've gotten much bigger (30-35lbs difference)since I first got my tattoo. (chest/shoulder/back)
When i first got mine, I was fit and slim, which made it hurt so fucking much.
But now after bulking up from the gym the last 6 monthes, it still looks perfectly normal.

Wow so you packed on about 30+ lbs of muscle and you didn't notice any stretching of your tat? If you don't mind me asking, what kind of tat is it? Tribal or shading? I would assume that even if tribal tats stretch it wouldn't make much of a difference since it's a shape but compared to if you had a face or animal it would be noticeable?

Depends on where you go. Blackwater (where I went) was over 6 months wait period, but definitely worth it!

is it typical for good places to have long wait like that? I want to get mine done a bit after the semester ends but I wanna get my g/f to do a couple rough outs on my back first so I can determine the exact sizing and location.

Get your artist to do the sizing and placement, not your girlfriend. Unless your girlfriend happens to be a tattoo artist.

keep in mind you look at your own body everyday. My tats are on the side of my body and recently i've bulk up a little too. granted its mostly fat but when i look in the mirror my tats look fine while my gf tells me my dragon got fat.

My girlfriend is just a normal artist (hobby) but I don't think a tattoo artist will want to sketch it out in pen/marker on my back a bunch of times until I like the size and height up my spine? I know a bunch of my friends with tattoos have wished theirs was shifted slightly or a little bit different size and I'm a little paranoid with stuff like this.

Well it is up to you I guess. But keep in mind that nobody will figure out placement better than a good artist, especially if it's a custom piece (and especially if it's done freehand!). Don't keep putting it off, don't be paranoid, just pick a good artist and get it done

true true, I have a picture of the piece (more or less, just need to remove a couple lines from the pic) and I'm gonna get it done asap at the same shop my girlfriend got hers done at (but I'm stuck in ghetto Thunder Bay til April 20th) Genesis in Vernon. the main thing that I want to figure out is the sizing. here's the pic, maybe you guys can help me out a little:

minus the rectangles (so it's just the leaf not the full flag). I might take out the extra little bit at the bottom right as well, not sure yet.

edit: I was looking around the Genesis site a bit more, all their work looks really good. So good, that now I kinda want something more elaborate. Maybe I'll change up that leaf to either be blended in or blended out.

Do NOT use Prep H for faster healing. the healing process needs to take it's own time. Let the ink set, you will have a better looking tattoo.
