Laptop keeps on Crashing - Blue Screen - Cache Dump

Hi all,

I just picked up a new laptop a few weeks ago and problems have already begun to occur.

I've got three USB plug-ins on this laptop and when something is removed from a slot - always safely removed - the screen goes blue and a message appears as follows:

"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time....

Check to be sure you have adequate disk space...

Technical Information:
*** STOP: 0x00000007e (0xFFFFFFFFFC00000005, ..........

Collecting data for crash dump...
Initializing disk for crash dump....
beginning dump of phisical memory...
Dumping physical memory to disk: ... "

I noticed once that below the first line of the message, it noted "REFERENCE_BY_POINTER". I'm not too sure what this means.

Anyone have any idea? Very much appreciated in advance!

Google the error msg (0x00000007e or whatever) and maybe add USB in the keyword search as well and see what comes up. Microsoft may have made a hotfix patch for it. I had a similar issue except not for the USB but for certain software that I installed

what kind of laptop?

a person i know had a Dell, one from those Telus promotions or w/e and it showed a similar screen, i think the HD ended up being fried and they had to send her a new one

those blue screens can mean multiple things though

thanks guys!

it's a Sony Vaio.. I've been installing and doing tons of work on this thing and it's been acting up the last few days. It only happens when I've got something in the USB port and when I try to safely remove it.
