4runner/pathfinder which would you choose? I'm looking for a used pathfinder 96+ or 4runner 92+ just going to be used for a winter vehicle so don't need anything too fancy. Want to spend about 0-5000 so cheap, prob going to sell it after (march-april of next year) so which would you choose and why? I currently have a 6th gen accord right now... it's pretty low to get over the snow so a 4x4 is the best choice :) |
90s model 4 runner > path 01 and up i believe path > 4 runner the 01 + plus model 3.5L 240hp with 2xx torque is very powerful as for 4 runners, pretty gutless compare to path |
^agreed, a lot of the 4 runners of that era i see though are covered in rust, seems like pathfinders usually in better condition, How about a landcruiser? (real mans jap suv :P) http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/va...336965635.html Or an older one http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/rd...353586524.html http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/pm...326474896.html http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/va...322331798.html |
landcruiser the turbo diesel??? i believe for 90s model 4runner's price usually is higher than path after 2001 path > 4 runner present |
I checked craigs and buy/sell i dont wanna spend a lot so 91+ trucks are out I was looking at the 93 4runners and they seem to rust everywhere especially over the rear wheels anyone know of a 4x4 forum that would have more info |
yota all the way... i own a 91 4runner sr5 v6 auto, super reliable, goes through everything you throw at it.. i beat the crap out of mine wheeling it and running over stuff, hasn't let me down www.yotatech.com |

The frame design on Pathfinders is really bad for not draining water. It's not uncommon for them to rust from the inside-out. Most people don't go through the trouble of rinsing out their frames yearly to clear out road debris, so they just become moisture traps. The 3.0 litre models (pre 95) are also notorious for breaking exhaust studs. They're a pain in the ass to get to and replace. 4cyl 4Runners are gutless but bulletproof. |
4runner is more reliable |
have you considered a Jeep YJ or TJ if you want to spend a little more http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/va...351748233.html |
Get an R50 Pathfinder (96+). They made the new fronts after 99.5, the 96-99 have an uglier front end imo. Check out NPORA for pathfinder information. lol I read up a lot on Pathies cause I was gunna get my uncles and lift it and all...don't think it's happening lol |
SlideStaRR, I really don't want a Jeep.... they're great off road jeeps but all i need is a on road suv for the snow ... better then a low accord basicly and Brendan, your the ONLY one that says pathfinder, I was looking for 96-98 just because they are MUCH cheaper to get 99.5 (with the newer 4wd system and the vq35) is expensive 10k +. I'm leaning towards a 4runner 92-95 sr5 v6.... really don't want the gutless 4 banger but everyone says that 22r-e is ridiculously maintenance free |

yeah the 99.5+ are a bit more. If you're just buying a winter beater then a 99.5 might not be the best bet. You can't go wrong with any though |

^ lol headgasket eh will do thanks! |
dont waste your money on those cars..they are gas guzzlers and you'll have trouble getting your money back if your thinking of selling.. just get really good snow tires for your accord..i,ve use a set of nokian tires and they handled so much better than some 4 wheels drive cars i've driven.. most main roads are plowed down pretty good in the city so ground clearance shouldnt be too much of an issue for you..my 2 cents |
4cylinder 4Runner -> get a 4cylinder with the 2.7 engine (2.4 has head problems?) Pathfinders -> do not buy a 1999.5+ They started using more aluminum components on the suspension, and they're prone to fail.. The backseats are surprisingly cramped as well.. Those who are are suggesting LC's.. Try finding one that's under $15k.. How about 1997-1999 Subaru Legacy Outbacks? |

^It does but it's JDM yo! that and it's probably in too good a condition for a beater |
4runners have suprisingly good resale values....pretty much all toyota trucks do |
