Gone In 31 Seconds. (Apple Store)

Quote:
Apple stores are known for their clean, modern, and user friendly layouts. What is also now known is that these stores can be picked clean by robbers in under 31 seconds. At the Sagemore, New Jersey Apple Store, a brick, 5 people and 31 seconds later 23 MacBook Pros, 14 iPhones, and 9 iPods were stolen while the security guard was away.

The video, attached below, shows how the thieves managed to ransack the store; it's amazing that Apple does not even use standard laptop locks to hold down their laptops. Apple does use a type of Ethernet cable that when unhooked produces a loud audible alarm.

The store is staffed by a security guard but clever timing and knowing Apple's security procedures allowed the thieves to get in and out before the guard had a chance at stopping them.

The thieves made the entire operation look very easy and may start a string of Apple store robberies. Don't be surprised though if Apple does change its policy in the near future to require laptop locks and other enhanced security measures.

Apparently a lot.

Break it properly or risk this happening:

Most of the macs at the stores are registered. They can easily track down who the suspects were.

That has nothing to do with breaking the glass.
He ran through the wrong door.

no they can't.
they might (and that's a big might) have tracking software in them that can track it if wifi is connected. but chances are all the macbooks will be wiped before they are used and they'll be like new. just buy a charger and bamn.

in the apple store, they don't like to use chains/wire. they have those little sticky alarm sensors on them. which are really easy to rip off.
ie. futureshop has them on all computers..
all they do is make a loud sound.. effective when there are staff around. useless in this case.

Doesn't any of them have mouses connected to them?
They wouldn't have been able to grab them all together as easily if there was a bunch of mouses dangling. And to unplug them all would slow them down just a bit...

That's pretty true. When we think of it, it's really just lack of "balls" that are holding people back from smashing a glass and doing a quick hit and run. Brick + Gloves + Mask. That's all you need. Once you throw the brick, how you act when you're inside, it's all pretty simple if you can keep your nerve calm. But most of us probably wouldn't even dare to throw the brick in the first place. Especially with "Murphy's Law," if you do something illegal, guarantee just so happens, a cop is patrolling around the corner.

I love how the newscasters make it out like it was a brilliant crime scheme. It's a smash and grab, not Oceans Fucking Eleven!

If I were the thieves I'd arrange to sell it to another country where apple products are worth A LOT more and people generally live with the no warranty thing always. Ship them out via Fedex using a fake sender's address.

Track? What track?
