thecamerastore
ebay (prodigital2000)
amazon.com

weigh out the pros and cons of the warranties etc. some provide 1 yr, some include a mack 7 year, vs. buying local for a bit more $

consistently thecamerastore has the best deals but vistek is always willing to pm them. i have lots of friends in calgary so it's a little different heh

I've had a lot of success buying from Henry's.com's ebay store. I think they screwed up their online pricing when I bought my Nikkor 17-55 because after shipping, USD to CDN conversion and taxes, I got it for $13XX. Now they're selling it for $13XX USD + tax and most places locally are charging 15XX for it. Their prices on other stuff is slightly better than most other Canadian stores, but they do charge you 12% tax vs only the GST from AB stores.

Whatever you do, don't buy Nikon gear outside of Canada! You will not have a warranty.

lenses should carry a 2 year international warranty, as told by nikon in richmond. But I don't think they know the difference between their own anus and an aperature opening.

lens purchased outside of North America = considered "grey market", possible 1 year international warranty but you may have to ship it back to Japan for servicing

lens purchased in the US = 1 year US warranty, 5 if you register the lens with Nikon USA. Nikon Canada will not touch these lenses.

lens purchased in Canada = 5 year Nikon Canada warranty.

That's my understanding of the whole Nikon warranty mess/confusion, compared to Canon's easy-and-simple (but short, only 1 year) warranty policy across lenses purchased in the US or Canada.

FUUUUUUUUU Nikon.

here's a great article by Thom Hogan:

http://www.bythom.com/warranty.htm

I think it's stupid for Nikon to not service lenses that were not bought in the home country... sure it cuts down on people buying across the border to save money but it makes servicing lenses a crap fest for paying customers.

There are some things I hate about Nikon and this warranty BS is the biggest of them all. Canon, on the other hand, is much more accommodating with lenses bought in different countries (but only 1 year).

anybody ever heard of 88express.com? they're base here in richmond, bc and i saw them post several stuff on craigslist. they seemed to be cheaper significantly as opposed to stores (before the canon rebates came).

They are pulling a bmw/mercedes thing.

Essentially you can pick up a d700 refurb for around 2k usd and after conversion it came to 2200.

Up here you're looking to pay 2900.

No wonder why they recently just lowered the price of the d700. Also I think the d700x is coming. Our systems are showing a cost of 2450 for a d700..

I think I'll wait for a d700x to come out. If it comes with video (which it should) and double the megaondapixels i'll pick one up.

A D700 with video would be a D700s, not D700x.

no a d700x. Becuase it would have 24mp. And all the people who bought the d3x would cry.

I wouldn't mind picking up an used D700 for around $2k if one became available at that price....
