Costco Warranty

I am sure we have all taken something back to Costco before and know about there no hassle return policy.
Has anyone taken a computer monitor back with out a receipt?
Mine is going and I see on there website that most monitors listed have a three year warranty. Problem is I dont know where my receipt is or if I still have it.
Do I need the receipt or can they look it up for me? I have never brought something back more then $50 without a receipt and I believe this was more around the $250 range when I bought it. No harm in asking, thought I would give it a try.

ilvtofu 09-06-2009 10:33 AM

I wonder if it's saved in their system through ur member's card

GodZilla 09-06-2009 10:38 AM

If I remember it shows your purchases and dates but by total. So if you bought a tv and a bag of chips and blender then it shows the total for all three. Not positive though.
And I cant find a number to call so thought I would try this route.

All elevtronics are now 90 days. Anything after that is........... take it up with manufacturer.

:(

GodZilla 09-06-2009 11:58 AM

But if you bought it before the policy change then should they not honor it?

i believe this is true. anything bought after the policy change is under new rules but the ones bought before are still under the old policy.

They do honor it but you would probably need a reciept, no? I know recently my friend took back his 4 year old projection TV after the bulb burnt out, he walked out with a larger LCD and $500 in his pocket. He did have the reciept though. I'm surprised they honored that warranty as long as they did it was insane.

No receipt means they give you a costco cash card instead of money back return. went thru this a couple months ago when i brought back a digital camera.

GodZilla 09-06-2009 01:29 PM

I did find my receipt which is still less within the three year warranty.
I am planning on going to Costco today for a look to see what they have and ask before bringing in the old one. I contacted Samsung (website) and they will send a refurbished one so I prefer to see if I can do a simple exchange at Costco. I will update.

IIRC. I was in there a couple of weeks ago, looking at TV's and I'm pretty sure they extend the manufacturers warranty for another year.

I was actually quite disappointed to find out they don't price-match

winks 09-07-2009 11:57 AM

they say everything except electronics has the same return policy as the manufacturers warranty is valid. maximum 2 years but people have been known to return things after 2 years.

StylinRed 09-07-2009 12:09 PM

i thought their old warranty was like... forever?

dad bought a tv just before they implemented the 90-day thing, told him he should return it but he thinks thats dishonest :/

http://www.costco.ca/service/feature...311536&sl=true

And yes they can search your purchase history ,but they need an approximate purchase date.

Our old Sony home theater system my parents bought from Costco back in 1993 still has receipt taped under the receiver - my dad is notorious for taping receipts of large electronic purchases on the component itself.

I suggested to my parents that we should return it and they scolded at me for being dishonest. hehe. That system was around $1500 before taxes back in the day.

Sorry. I got the two things confused. Warranty is not the same as return policy.

GodZilla 09-13-2009 08:17 AM

Ok update

I took back the monitor and they refunded the full amount on debit.
So I picked up the new Acer H233H 23" wide screen for $189. $40 cheaper then last week and ends today.

So I unpack and plug it in and .......see below :(

It's punks and Aholes like you that the policy changed. Had everyone still be honest and old school like your parents they wouldn't of had to change it.

^ you'd be surprised how many ppl were lined up to return fans/aircons for heaters when i was there last.

hell, an old lady bought 2 crabs n left them in her car and they went bad on her. she got a full refund!! dude in front of me returned half....HALF...of a cake citing that it didnt taste as good as he thought it would!!

those crabs were stinking up the whole area!!! 4 dudes came by with 2 cans of febreeze each to douse the freezer. crazy ass people!

and yes...i believe costco doubles the warranty on products automatically. same as with the amex i think. but that's warranty and not return policy

Mugen EvOlutioN 09-14-2009 01:34 AM

wow didnt know u can return rotten crabs

wtf

nipples 09-14-2009 05:24 AM

according to the guy i asked...if u buy a carton of milk and leave it next to a heater n turn it into cheese you can return it. it's stupid!!

that means if i buy 100 bucks of groceries and dice versus jullian slice them, i can return it.

i think the policy is good to show they stand behind their product...but is too open to abuse

wnderinguy 09-14-2009 09:11 AM

They've also changes heir policy on Flowers(fresh cut roses etc..) ,because people would return them after a couple weeks and get new ones and then return them after a couple weeks etc... some people really have no morals IMO.
