How are the Bridgestone Blizzaks in the winter?

Excellent, though they wear fast on dry pavement. This is especially true of the dual-compound Blizzaks, where they have ultra-grippy snow rubber on the first 40% (or something) of the tread and regular snow-tire rubber on the rest.

How are the Goodyear Nordic from Canadian Tire? Are they sufficient for a 2004 Toyota Sienna? This is for daily driving between Richmond and Vancouver during the winters.

CanadianDriver gave it a decent review, and the price seems pretty good.

Thanks.

Thanks.

Never tried it, though I'm interested in using it or the General Altimax Arctic on the CSX this winter. Reviews are pretty positive however, and some snow tire is better than no snow tire. Though... I'll probably end up with performance winters on it or something (Blizzak LM-25 or Pilot Alpin PA3 or something) as it will mostly see dry roads and if it gets bad enough I'll only take the Odyssey out wearing Blizzaks.

lets see

i had toyo observes on the prelude, loved them.

i have nokian WR's on the highlander, they ok, good in snow, but well having wear issues right now with them.

i had bridgestone blizzak ws-50s on my stock 16s on my GS. sold those not too long ago, loved them.

i now have bridgestone lm-25's, so wont know how good they are until i try them out =) but tread pattern looks ok.

My wife had a set of those on her old Neon, man that car never got stuck!! Made it up and down Cypress all winter long, even when AWD cars and SUVs were getting stuck in the snow...

I have a set of Nexen-brand cheap (read: Walmart) winter tires for my DD Cavalier.. they're alright I suppose... way better than all-seasons, but I did get stuck one day trying to get up an icy hill, til I turned the car around and backed up it instead. The Bridgestones were much better all around, but they weren't as cheap.

Shun Izaki 09-16-2009 03:58 AM

here's something really crappy...

i have blizzakws-60's which rock... on all 4 of my stock wheels, but my b-pipe runs along dragging every chunk of snow more than a few inches off the ground, or i'd be clear, even in the side streets.. i wonder if i could build some awesome shielding for it.

TypeRNammer 10-20-2009 03:36 PM

I picked up a set of nokian hakkapeliitta r's but they sure weren't cheap! =(

Plus hunting down for winter tires now is a pain in the ass, too much demand, and too damn pricey.

!Aznboi128 10-20-2009 05:01 PM

let me ask you guys a question....

I got a set of hankooks w440 right now on my Accord. Thread's still good but they aren't that great. Should I get myself a set of ws-60?

Mugen EvOlutioN 10-20-2009 07:05 PM

yes

spoon.ek9 10-20-2009 07:24 PM

haven't used snow tires in 8 years of driving. buying my first set this season, i'll see what the difference is :D

Iceman-19 10-20-2009 07:39 PM

it better fucking snow. i am buying a diesel truck this weekend because of that reason. if it is just rain, i will be pissed, because i would have bought a supercharged or turbocharged mustang instead.

roastpuff 10-20-2009 08:55 PM

Should be ok. What is remaining tread depth?

You think they're hard to find now, wait until the first snow hits...

Put the newer snow tires in the front for FWD. its better if you don't want to get stuck trying to climb a hill.

Thats what I'm doing b/c.

I can't fit the winters in the back because it will rub my fenders due lowering and rear camber kit. I'm just gonna put my 215/50/17 Falken 912 in the rear and 225/50/17 Bridgestones blizzaks in the front.

alternative would be to raise the car, or adjust for more negative camber in the rear, or roll the fenders and cuts tabs to fit all 4 winter tires.

godwin 10-21-2009 06:37 AM

eer no matter FWD or RWD.. always put snow tires on the rear Unless you are driving a rear engined car.

If you loose traction in the rear you will be in a spin (bad). And in if you only have snow tires up front on FWD, it is unrecoverable. With FWD, your front is always heavy, so you get more weight on the front for traction.

Always get snow tires in 4s.

i always could not understand that statement above. i know it's what the tire manufacturers recommend, but what is the point of doing it if your non-snow tires on the driven wheels have no traction and cannot move the car in the first place? there is nothing to recover from if the car is stuck to begin with

godwin 10-21-2009 06:45 AM

honestly a month ago.. tirerack had a huge sale.. 70 bucks for 17" was a deal.

If you get Nokians and you want a deal, get it in WA.. Kaltire has exclusive on Nokians in BC.. and they sell at MSRP.
