Q: DVD-ROM randomly spins

Hi guys,
This is really bizarre. If a disc is inside the dvd-rom, the drive would randomly spin. The dvd light does not blink, it just spins the disc.
I did a google search, but nothing, I guess this isn't a common issue. All cables are tightly connected, nothing loose.

A side note, my hdd would also disappear from windows explorer which requires a reboot to reappear, so I'm not really sure if it really is the motherboard here, I have no idea how to check if a mobo is dying. I certainly hope not. It could be the dreaded 7200.11 hdd i'm dealing with here.

Suggestions for the random spins?

Thanks.
