PS3 YLOD

Has anyone else got the yellow light of death?

Mine died last night. I was wondering if you had success getting it fixed from somewhere and for how much.

I called sony and they want me to pay them $169 plus tax.

If you are out of warranty, look up on google.

There's a guide that teach you how to fix it. It's not guaranteed to work, but you could at least try.

Grandmaster TSE 09-16-2009 03:12 PM

i wouldn't take a risk fixing it yourself, could make the problem worse than it already is

underscore 09-16-2009 04:19 PM

from what I have read, you can try fixing it, just use a bit of liquid flux and a heat gun, protect the other components with tin foil. there are tutorials everywhere, a guy just fixed his in the PS3 thread. Sony is also supposed to be fairly lenient when it comes to warranties as well. If all that scares you then I'd say sell it on ebay as a YLOD PS3 or part it out, $169 plus tax plus shipping and you're nearly at a new PS3...

Hondaracer 09-16-2009 05:30 PM

i think you just bring it to that sony place in coquitlam and they all get fixed there anyways?

ienhz 09-16-2009 05:52 PM

my friend got that on his 1st gen ps3 60gb. some guy on craigslist charges $150 to fix it but my friend just bought a new slim instead.

tdubl 09-17-2009 11:23 PM

$100 to fix? Or $150 for the guy on CL? seriously? no way the fix is worth that haha.

Mugen EvOlutioN 09-18-2009 12:30 PM

why? wat did u expect the repair pricing to be?

$35 bux?

underscore 09-18-2009 12:38 PM

well it takes like no effort... I was charging $50 to fix 360's, not many people at that price, so I dropped it to $30, lots of hits meow. then again everyone in this town (Thunder Bay) is cheap as fuck.

I was talking to a sony store employee and he told me PS3 can only be sent to east for repair. I mentioned the Sony service center in Coquitlam and he told me they don't take PS3 there. not sure if it's true.

Never seen it, but my first 80GB PS (with software backward compatibility) died within a week that the blu-ray drive won't read anything.

StylinRed 09-18-2009 05:24 PM

Ouch $170? might as well buy a new ps3 unless yours has BC or try to fix it urself :/

fuck my 60 gig ps3 just had that yellow light of death......

when trying to turn on console, it wont even boot, it will go green, then yellow then blinking red light.... shit and my uncharted game disc is stuck inside

can anyone refer someone locally who can fix my console?

long weekend is up and damn looking forward to playing more uncharted 2 multiplayer beta

Hondaracer 10-10-2009 08:47 AM

wtf happened to the days of leaving an N64 or PS2 on for days/weeks at a time and working the same way it did out of the box up until you tossed it away :(

underscore 10-10-2009 09:04 AM

man WHY would you throw away an N64? Mario Kart dude! come one!

that said those things really weren't too powerful. they weren't drawing tonnes of power at lightening speed through super thin wires and requiring complex cooling setups. hell does an N64 even have a fan?

I'm getting my ps3 fixed, I have the YLOD. I just dropped it off and will have it back by friday. I'll update this when I get it back. The guy I'm getting mine repaired from is from surrey (guildford) area and provides a 3 month warranty for $120.

hotjoint 10-20-2009 06:54 PM

http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/pm...430277191.html
