Future Shop Discounts??

hopefully this is the right section to post.

i just bought something at FS and the guy at the department i was looking at said the item was at cost and he cant go any lower on price, however when took that item to the check out and i asked another employee, he gave me a $12 discount off the price of $100. and the strange thing was i just asked the checkout guy for a discount and he just typed a random number into the computer and asked me if this was good enough :haha:

so yea im confused about how these discounts work, if u just ask and ask till they give u one or what

liu13 09-17-2009 03:39 PM

yep pretty much, they'll do anything for a sale

same applies for most retail places

sexyaccord 09-17-2009 03:45 PM

haah what??

AVS_Racing 09-17-2009 03:56 PM

yea but im curious how much discount i can get

teaoh 09-17-2009 04:03 PM

I got this coupon from BB and you save $10 off on any purchase over $50. Too bad I have no use for it. Hopefully I will need to buy something before it expires on at the end of the month haha

Gh0stRider 09-17-2009 04:06 PM

When they say, they can't go any lower...thats a lie.

computer shows the cost price and the regular price. They can keep giving you a discount to a certain point, but they make less commission.

cunninglinguist 09-17-2009 04:07 PM

I think it depends on the item's margin and they will look it up on the computer. I don't think there's much discount on computers but on stuff like Monster Cables you may get a lot off. I got a dishwasher down from 600 to 470.

AVS_Racing 09-17-2009 04:16 PM

i thought FS and BB no longer operate on a commission basis so they say theres no sales pressure or something

cunninglinguist 09-17-2009 04:21 PM

Future Shop is commision.
BB is not commission.
This is what I read at Red Flag Deals.com
I find things are cheaper at Future Shop for the same item when I look online.

Vansterdam 09-17-2009 04:40 PM

funny cause they owned by same company lol

skyxx 09-17-2009 04:43 PM

Haggle them enough and they most likely will. Accessories for anything are usually marked up in the hundred percents, always try to get a discount on those.

skyxx 09-17-2009 05:37 PM

^ I know that. I'm just surprised they would give discounts. That's all....Should be against employee code but whatever.

getalove 09-17-2009 05:42 PM

Bestbuy is the worst

jsoni 09-17-2009 05:58 PM

Future shop does offer discounts ... sometimes
I would know, I work there

As stated above it all depends on cost.
Some items such as ...
Gaming systems, computers, and Apple Products (ipods, mac's etc...) to name a few have very little in terms of mark up thus no room for a discount.

Usually, people buying a single item will not get a better deal, for the most part ...
the more you buy the better possible "deal" you can get

wuuhoo 09-17-2009 07:49 PM

so your tell us that if we go in and keep bargaining, we eventually get a discount ? haha wow i never knew you can do that. Always thought you had to pay the full price at these places

nabs 09-17-2009 07:57 PM

i once got a 300 dollar discount at bestbuy off a 700 dollar item =D

twitchyzero 09-17-2009 09:34 PM

the only time i buy from bestbuy/futureshop is when i pricematch.

they love it so much..i always get their glares

wrong, they have to go to a different page entirely to check out the cost price.

I think iPods are marked up pretty high? My brother who works at the Best Buy head office said that the new iPod Touch 32GB is $220 through the employee pricing, although he has to get it shipped to the office. That's like fucking 90 bucks worth of savings versus regular after taxes.

^hm interesting. dosen't seem right usually the mark up on ipod is 3-10% ish
I havent been to work in a week, I guess i'll check it out tomorrow :D

I'm assuming the cost drop might have been an error ? , its happen's sometimes.
If you look back, when Futureshop has "customer appreciation sales" Ipods are always left off the usual 10% discount given
They do make a profit, but as most electronic sales go profit is not made off of hardware
