Dunno, just an observation. I'll figure out what to do when the time comes. | Actually youth crime/crime in general has been decreasing for several years, its just the reporting of violent crime/sensentionalism that is on the rise.

Well, to be honest, in other parts of China, she would have been drowned. So she got it off easy by just having a beat down. It's hard to compare the severity of "crime" when different cultures r involved. Of courses here in North America, cheating doesnt seem like a big deal cuz everyone is banging everbody else to begin with. But in more "traditional" cultures in Asia, it's serious business. At the end of the day, it's the difference in value and it's tough to say what's right & what's not.

Dunno, just an observation. I'll figure out what to do when the time comes. | Reasoning with children goes a long way. Violence is not always the best solution. For most people it's the easiest thing to do. Some parents just enjoy it way too much. Some of those kids who end up being shitheads end up that way because of plain old shitty parenting skills. Smacking your kids around teaches them nothing, except it's OK to hit people.
Anyway, I guess people can beat the snot out of the people they supposedly care about. I don't care. I have three kids of my own who turned out great. Positive and caring individuals. They point out my bad points all the time. Now that's a good thing. I'm proud that they can see right from wrong.
Just the other day I did something really evil and I didn't think my daughter saw me do it, but she did. I said something completely stupid like...... "an eye for an eye." She replied, "So the world goes blind." *gulp*

If beating kids worked why are there so many EI gangsters/drug dealers.

I'm not saying to beat your kids for every single mistake to do- a mix of both works just fine.
My sibling who was beat a lot as a kid is more responsible and independent than my cousin who was "reasoned with" all his life. Quote:

But honestly- whatever. I don't care how you guys raise your kids- that's the culture you grew up in and I'm not gonna shit on it. I just know that how my parents raised my siblings and I worked well, and I'm willing to do more or less the same when the time comes that I have kids. EDIT: And I just realized- When I say "beat kids" I don't mean actually beating them. I meant more like spanking and something along those lines.

Maybe the word reasoning is too open ended a term. Don't get me wrong, when the kids are little and they don't have the cognitive ability to understand fully what they are doing, a good swift spanking is just about the only way to get their attention.
The last thing you want to do, from my experience, is treat kids as if they're stupid. They're not. Most kids understand a lot more than they are given credit for .........well, some kids are pretty dumb (the apple doesn't fall far from the tree) and will never get it.
You mention morals. That's a big one. If you don't model it yourself as a parent, chances are, they are not going to have any, either. I'm so glad my wife raised the kids over the years. She stayed at home, didn't work, and volunteered at the school. Financially it was a huge burden, but it worked out OK.
I tried over the years to display good moral values in front of the children 100%, but being who I am and where I come from, it was really difficult at times. One thing that was big in our family was cheating and stealing - zero tolerance. I don't think those things even entered their minds. It's so wrong and they knew it. No ifs, ands, or buts. I expected nothing but honesty from my kids. I had those expectations and nothing else mattered, because if those things were harped upon day in and day out, everything else would fall into place. I also modeled compassion and helping out your fellow man. I never thought twice about helping a person in distress. I go out of my way to help people - complete strangers. I would like to think shit like that made a difference. Being a good parent is not just about providing food, clothing, and shelter. It's about nurturing them to becoming positive and productive members of society - social responsibility. If we all did it, this world would be a better place. One can only hope.
This is way off topic. We should create a new thread about the degradation of our society caused by all the dumb ass parents out there.
Oh, let's take it further............ how about a thread on how our Canadian values have degraded over the years due to........ nah. That thread would be too controversial.

One should also accept the gravity of consequence appropriate to ones misdeed.
To expectation of entitlement that one's actions should be free of consequence or that the consequence should only be a fraction of one's actions is deplorable and is one of the veins of human disfunctionality.

Suffice to say, headstrong kids like that aren't going to bend from bedroom confinement, lack of tv, and the odd spankings. Some kids just need to learn the hard way that the King of the Jungle is not them.
hehe, it's funny, I just realized now that even I think there are situations its okay to beat a kid.

My thoughts are, if she cheated on you, just dump her. Beating on someone weaker than you like that is wrong. So no beating on the woominz!

theres always a reason for giving someone an asswhooping.
suffice to say, sometime people really are "asking for it"

I don't see how we're suppose to judge what a man does with his woman. In certain parts of the world, she'd be drowned/stoned/hanged for adultry.

So, married men feel they own their women? I like how that one country/culture/religion/whatever tried to pass the law that a husband could rape his wife twice a week.
Are you married? Do you have a daughter, a mother? Women in your life worthless too? Just wondering, that's all.
Judge what a man does with "HIS" woman? I think it's called laws. Nobody "owns" another person.
Just my opinions............... you can continue to support men who control women.
God Bless
