2 weeks into Canada Line full operation ...

and I'm Loving It (tm)!!

Traffic along granville st is freaking AWESOME now with none of those long haul busses on it. As i have said in the other skytrain thread, i travel along that route 4 times / day, every day. i used to be ALWAYS either stuck behind busses or in traffic. for 2 weeks now, i have not been delayed AT ALL.

combine that with all the diesel fumes that aren't being released into the air (and money savings from it, and drivers wages) makes me a HUGE supporter of skytrain.

massive infrastructure == win! :thumbsup:

(i still say fuck translink though -- they are clueless. and fuck gregor 'yes tolls should be placed __________' robertson too)

The trains are packed, but not sardine-packed. It's livable and a lot faster than the B-line.

jmvdesign 09-19-2009 03:13 PM

This is the best thing that ever happened to Richmond.

twitchyzero 09-19-2009 03:44 PM

it's actually been running for a month now not 2 weeks but yeah it's a great addition to the city

hk20000 09-19-2009 03:50 PM

I withhold my comment until they finish fixing the damned no.3 road. Now it's WIP and it's unbearable to drive on. Also traffic has been diverted down to Garden City Rd which I use everyday and that's bummer.

PiuYi 09-19-2009 04:11 PM

skytrain = new tolls on old bridges = diverted/cancelled buses (480,491,492,488,etc) = fucked up #3 = more bums in rmd = more car break-ins = FTL

misteranswer 09-19-2009 04:54 PM

Do you guys actually think the thought process of some people is "I will now start stealing cars because of their is a skytrain line here"? I'm pretty sure these car thieves were already car thieves before the skytrain was complete.

More like "I'm gonna go to Richmond and try my luck on some luxury cars because I can get there without paying or wait on a bus"

Because there are fewer luxury cars and limited selection in Vancouver or specifically, downtown Vancouver than Richmond!

spoon.ek9 09-19-2009 06:45 PM

i drive down granville street from richmond all work-week and i've hardly noticed any difference at all. it still takes me ~30mins to drive downtown. seems like only the weekend has slightly improved (~5mins).

We all know people in Vancouver are poor because they spent all their money on their houses.

SkinnyPupp 09-19-2009 08:25 PM

Why do people keep saying there are more bums in Richmond now? Is this actually true, or are people just assuming it? Have you thought of the possibility that all the bums in Richmond have now migrated to Vancouver? :lol

Haha, i want to know if there are more bums in Richmond too.

The only thing coming into Vancouver from Richmond might be C-lais on foot, bumping into people in downtown.

Ikkaku 09-20-2009 12:05 AM

it seems traffic on oak bridge during rush hour has improved slightly... nothing to wow about, but it's notable.

CP.AR 09-20-2009 12:22 AM

it's true theres more bums in Richmond... the last week I spotted for the 1st time, some guy holding a sign asking for spare change, on the small island seperating lane directions. This was on Westminster and Gilbert.

1st FREAKING TIME IN RICHMOND MAN, I WAS THRILLED. I wanted to just open my window and yell to the guy "it aint gonna work, richmond speaks chinese"

You seriously have never seen bums before in Richmond?
