Got a ticket in US today in a rental car...need some advice So I was driving to the states today with my frd's rental car. It was in the morning with minimal traffic and I was driving around 85 Miles /h. Without noticing the undercop car next 2 lanes, he pulled me over right away and charged me excessive speeding. Here is my question/concern, I know its best for me to pay the 210 US fine. But what is worse situation that could happen? They said if they pulled me over if im driving in the states again, it will become a criminal offense and my license will get suspended. Any drivers here with previous experiences that are similar? Of course i wont go thru the hassle of going to the court in US and stuff. But should I just leave it? Will they mail crap to my house here?! Like warning letters. any input would be great guys! Need some tips My 1st time got a tix @ US:( |
They won't let you back in the US or something along the lines of that until you pay it. |
If you show up at the border next time, you may get sent to jail. Just avoid the hassle and pay for it. |
pretty much customs will detain you at the border the next time you go down until you pay the fine. |

Wow the sheriff didnt mention that part for sure. I keep thinking that I can go to US as long as i dont drive |
Thats what everyone thinks but the truth is nobody knows. It seems whenever this question comes up its always a friend of a friend that got detained. Either way I wouldnt pay it. Keep the money in Canada. Dont give the US government anything. |

YOU GO TO JAIL BAD BOY |
my buddy just went through this hell. he thought he paid the ticket, payment didnt go through, plate was tagged, state trooper pulled him over, arrested him, put him in the back of the car, sat on the radio with dispatch for 20 mins, eventually let him go, but wasnt allowed to drive in the states, had to have his gf drive the car back over the border to vancouver where he had to call in to pay the ticket again and get the BS sorted out and i believe all is well and sorted out, but just pay the ticket right away and get it over with. |
anyone know how to check the if the payment went thru? To ensure what super dipper said would not happen |
85mph on a 70mph highway is excessive speeding? What? |

Where in the US did you get the ticket? You can always dispute it if it's too much money. |

pay it. my friend got a ticket.. didn't pay it. then he got fined for not paying it.. a $200 ticket become close to $400... just pay it. easy come easy go |
I had this happen to me earlier this year. I went down to the courthouse they stated on the back and disputed it for a lower amount. Basically the cop told me I either dispute it or pay it, if I didn't I wouldn't be allowed in the country. |

Save yourself the hassle, and more importantly your friend's. |
^ LOL Yeah, you can still go to the States if you get a ticket there. You just can't drive in the state that you got the ticket in if you don't pay it. I work with people who have gotten tickets and they're still travelling to the US ;) |

you were speeding, buck up. If you don't pay it, a bench warrant will be issued and if you are caught in the USA again your vacation plans will be put on hold for a nice little stay in jail. |
pay it |
now here is my question, They said i must respond to this place skagit country district court at this location. Does that mean my chq or money order is payable to them? To the court? It doesnt say who its payable to in the front or back. |

In the US, when a peace officer issues you a ticket and you sign it, you are promising either to pay it or go to court to dispute it. So if you don't pay the fine or attend court, the courts can charge you with "contempt of court" or "failure to pay a fine." If that happens, the court can charge you with a misdemeanor and issue a warrant for your arrest and add an additional fee (called a "civil assessment") of up to $250. |
