Are you an actuary? Or will you be selling life insurance?

Just curious, why did you give him your resume?

Whats to regret?

Just go to the interview and see what he has to offer. Better to go and see what happens then to not go at all.

While talking to him, if the job position he proposes is not interesting to you, counter and state that you have these qualifications, etc, and if they are hiring any one in this area.

Well it turned out as what expected, they're looking for advisors...it's actually pretty easy if you are into sales positions. We had a quick talk and after i had to take this 30 min tests, i just screw up the test on purpose so i have low marks on it...but i mentioned to him a few times that im more into analysts type.

topic on the side, but did anyone check out what TD, Scotiabank, and Grandtag Financial had to offer in the Career fair?

Missed mine... Now I know Sunlife was more of the advisors type, was wondering about whether the banks had just CSR...

anyone know?

Djiban, did you check a lot of companies? There wasn't much companies I was really interested in apart from the 3 I mentioned above. F55 is all about selling insurance as well, so blech. Didn't have a chance to go cause I had to do something else important.

^ Which career fair are you talking about?

I went to the SFU one, not many companies were there only scotia, freedom financial, and sunlife. Those are the finance related ones anyways. I dunno but everytime i ask banking companies, they always offer the teller positions as a fresh grad...and they always tell me to apply online, which makes me wonder the purpose of them being at the booth.

are you really that bad at saying no that you have to make yourself look like an idiot so they dont offer you the job?

i mean, what if this guy is connected to other financial institutions, which i'm sure he is, and one day he's having a conversation these other banks and they bring up the story about some kid fresh out of university applying for a job and had the WORST score ever. did you ever think of that?

With most insurance/financial companies, you are self-employed and are paid on what you sell (Meaning no base salary and all comissions). If you're uncomfortable with that, then it's not right for you.

Bumping an old thread:

Got an e-mail today from a manager @ Sunlife. Is this for a similar kind of selling job mentioned above? Thanks in advance.

" You appear to have a career focus in some (or all) of the key areas we need: sales, finance, marketing, business development, and customer
service. The opportunity of being a Financial Advisor with Sun Life harnesses these areas of interest, and combines them with your personality as a self-driven, motivated and determined professional who enjoys helping other people achieve lifetime financial security. "

Edit: Never mind, just read on their website. http://www.sunlife.ca/Canada/sunlife...gnLocale=en_CA

Thanks anyways!

this is a joke seriously. Almost anyone with a bachelor's degree will get an interview. Basically you're starting out from zero and they want to see if you already have some network of friends to get your business started with.
