Just a few specs:

285hp / 265 lb-ft
2.4L Turbo VVT engine
6 speed Getrag manual transmission
19 inch polished aluminum wheels
Brembo brakes
Aerodynamic body spoilers, functional hood scoop and rear spoiler
Bucket premium cloth seats
Short shifter

Suspension
Lowered MacPherson strut front suspension includes unique suspension knuckles and tuned dampers with performance spring rates. Front suspension also includes coil spring over gas-charged shock absorbers and stabilizer bar. Multilink independent rear suspension includes coil springs, link-type stabilizer bar and gas-charged shock absorbers. SRT4 features front (24 mm) and rear (18 mm) sway bars.

OPTIONS:

Navigation including 30gig HD, 13 speaker Kicker sound
Sunroof
Leather bucket seats with faux suede inserts

And you get this bucket of magnificence for $28,500 all optioned out. (It starts at $24,500 before the afformentioned options)

Yes its got a rubbish badge and its not built with very much care. But what car that offers even a modicate of performance is? Its not a track car but for daily driving the SRT-4 looks like great value for money. Going to take one for a spin.

Same money you get a mid-load mazda3, base GTI, lancer GTS, base Civic Si. Check it out.

Uhm, okay? :lol

Anyway, I had one for a couple days. I actually had loads of fun in it. Pretty quick car for what it is. It even kept up with a buddy's (admittedly fairly untuned) 350whp turbo V6... The only thing I hated about it was the cheap man's "LSD." Even considered buying one over the summer.

Johnrb 09-28-2009 10:59 PM

I thought the caliber version of the srt-4 was out for quite some time now?
anyways i would rather own the original skittle based on the neon..

They stopped making it due to poor sales perhaps?

I forgot was it MotorTrend or C&D did a comparsion test between all the compact sports hatch/sedan on the market.

This Dodge came in last, even after the VTEC Si :)

Found it,

THAT as a winter beater?
holy crap you must be baller

Adrenaline Rush 09-28-2009 11:54 PM

An older SRT4 would be a better bet if you're looking for a winter beater. Similar power, much better handling, a Quaife LSD (04+) from the factory, and cheaper to boot.

they have a stroked out version of the 4b11T, known as the 4b12T...which is pretty much a stroked out evo engine ;)

Good bang for buck for straight line performance.

evo motor or not the old srt-4 is no slouch

wih mopar stage upgrades from the dealer the car could reliably make 300hp

with aftermarket upgrades like the 50 trim from agp It's not uncommon to see 400whp with pump gas

Good for going straight and that's about it. Overpriced too. Cobalt SS >>>> Caliber SRT-4 and it costs less.

Supafly 09-29-2009 06:53 AM

So, i got a loner car from MB Repair yesterday... and they gave me this thing to drive...
Aside from the powerplant, this car is a pile of crap. So much plastic, and so much vibration driving it around..the blind spots are enormous. I dont like.

shes fast going straight...thats about it.

ilvtofu 09-29-2009 06:54 AM

^ +1 but you lose the practicality, neways I test drove an SRT-4 and at highway speeds didn't feel very planted, maybe the wheels were misaligned or something during my test drive
But I like the styling of the SRT-4 over the cobalt but as a drivers car it's no comparison

Mugen EvOlutioN 09-29-2009 07:17 AM

i guess old SRT 4 > new SRT 4?

^why would they ask that guy to do the narration on the video >.<
It was so annoying!

Maybe in the end the caliber comes out last

Actually the Dodge is better value for money. It comes with navigation, keyless go, polished 19 inch wheels and supercar goodyears 3 season tires, leather and a killer 13 speaker stereo. Chevy's got none of that.

It looks like shit so that's a deal breaker already. If I wanted a cheap, fast domestic car, it'd be the cobalt ss.

Hmm now that I think of it, if you're looking at around 25k for a winter beater, why not a used wrx or STI? seems like more fun to me, and awd so makes even more sense

maxx 09-29-2009 06:04 PM

^^ i dont want a used car. but im still looking

how can you compare it to the dodge avenger? my friend got that as a loner car. one of the drawbacks too was the plastic and huuuuuge blind spot (c pillars)

Actually, it depends what you consider "value". Performance or frills and options.
