Hyundai Equus Long Wheelbase Edition

Hyundai launches long wheelbase edition of its most luxurious car, the EQUUS

Hyundai Motor Co. today began receiving orders for the long wheelbase edition of its most luxurious car, the EQUUS.

The stretch edition offers several upgraded features from the normal sedan version, including differentiated exterior designs and longer overall length. The engine and other functions have been reinforced to attain first-class performance, safety, comfort and convenience.

With the comfort of passengers at the forefront of its design principle, the EQUUS Limousine, as it is named in Korea, offers passengers unparalleled levels of interior volume. The vehicle’s length is longer than major competitors by as much as 310 mm, with backseat legroom as much as 376 mm longer, as well.

To differentiate it from the EQUUS sedan, the stretch version is equipped with an exclusive horizontal cross-bar radiator grille with an emblem in the center. Thus, the exterior image exudes an impression of strength and confidence, in line with the vehicle’s elegant image.

EQUUS Limousine comes with a choice of two sophisticated engines: The Lambda 3.8L engine and the Tau 5.0L engine. The Tau 5.0 engine, applied to the stretch version for the first time, is a reinforced version of the Tau 4.6L engine that won the 2009 Ward’s 10 Best Engines award.

With a maximum output of 400ps and a peak torque rating of 51.0kg, the stretch version outperforms its competitors, such as the Lexus LS460L and Mercedes S500L by 20ps and 12ps, respectively.

The power-driven footrest, the world’s first, along with Rear Seat Leg Support, Relax Posture Control and Massage System function, allows passengers the most comfortable driving experience found today.

The price for the long wheelbase edition EQUUS ranges from 135 million won to 146 million won (approximately US$113,000 to US$122,180, based on today’s currency exchange rates).

Additionally, Hyundai has successfully developed a bulletproof version of the long wheelbase EQUUS and has donated three units to the Blue House (the Korean Presidential Residence). Hyundai is the first Korean company and one of a handful worldwide – to develop a bulletproof car with its own technology.

$120k hyundai... coming to work today i saw a hyundai stellar (a rwd 4dr throwback from the 80's), and i realized how far hyundai has come, but i just can't shake the stigma of cheapness from the company name to justify paying that price.

simsimi1004 09-29-2009 08:55 AM

been in the new equus sedan and its freaking nice as hell.
i was in the backseat only but it was so roomy and nice. might be because the driver had his seat pulled to the wheel but still very comfortable.
the ride was also buttery smooth compared to g35 08 that i drive daily, but 50k car vs 100k car lol.
u dont buy these cars so u can drive it urself lol.

feels really heavy and nice like a bmw

3seriesBeeM 09-29-2009 09:11 AM

damn that looks really nice hyundai is moving up in the auto industry

RE-Jo 09-29-2009 09:13 AM

no sun/moonroof?

tool001 09-29-2009 09:33 AM

Hyundai is a expensive brand in korea (compaired to KIA, SSANGYONG etc.)... that said, they can't achieve the same level in North Ame., regardless of cars like this. (they seem to be trying to crack into luxury market)
they are doing good - compaired to toyota/honda/gm so they have lots of money to spend on new Mod.

approximately US$113,000 to US$122,180, ??? are u kidding me?

no one with a size of a monkey brain would buy this

dont get me wrong, its fucking pimping...hella luxury and it looks decent.

but for $120g USD???

hello benz S class? 7 series? even A8

those are the TOP 3 choices when u think about everyday life HIGH HIGH END luxury car

follow by LS450H/ LS600 of course

what makes hyundai think they can smoke the other 4 by having the same price tag if not more expensive? They aint got shit in this category. Must be on crack or sth, look at Infinity....they dropped their highest line up since wat? 2003 or some shit like that. The Q45? because no one was buying them

Good luck Hyundai

the front looks like they copied the new S class, rear looks like LS series, even the side looks like S class

Timpo 09-29-2009 11:16 AM

yeah, nobody would pay that much for a Hyundai.

I still wonder why don't they bring the Genesis brand...just like Lexus.

unit 09-29-2009 11:31 AM

if you guys werent so dumb you'd realize you cant buy an S class for 120k in korea.
i doubt this stretch'd vip hyundai will ever come here, so you cant compare its USD translated price to anything here.

Mugen EvOlutioN 09-29-2009 11:36 AM

ok even if it werent $120g USD

the way they wonna lay out that thing will AT LEAST be priced anywhere from $85g plus!!!! is it cheap? no

same thing with their genesis sedan the top model tops out $48g before taxes!!!

3 series? C class? pay a little bit more and get a E class or 5 series?

G37 sedan? M35? i have never ever seen anyone stupid enough buying the $50 genesis on the road so far, couple basic V6 ones yes.... but nearly $60g after some options and taxes for that? no...

unit 09-29-2009 11:42 AM

this is not a grocery getter type car, this is a car you get driven in.
think nissan president, toyota century, those type of cars. in japan these cars are priced similarly to this new equus, so its no surprise.

Mugen EvOlutioN 09-29-2009 11:57 AM

ya i guess..true that

does look pimp tho

skyxx 09-29-2009 12:50 PM

I'd buy it.

124Y 09-29-2009 01:03 PM

Nice car!

When I was scrolling through the photos, I thought I was gonna see some bodykits and shit lol.

Why would it be stupid, none of the cars you listed have an even marginally comparable interior size, and as far as build quality goes, I'm >9000% sure that hyundai reliability > mercedes

lol, ppl buy S class or 7 series are not in for the reliability. they are in for the status of driving a S class or 7 series.

Anything goes wrong? get a new one, count the cost into corporate spending, problem solved !

!Aznboi128 09-29-2009 04:46 PM

I want one

The reasoning mugenevolution gave against the genesis coupe was that it'd blow up because hyundai's have "shit reliability" well, that problem doesn't apply anymore, so I agree with you, Just can't wait to hear what the lame excuse is this time.
