i mean, slasher movies (any movie where the "bad guy" is human(s)), aren't that scary because you know you would act differently or you are able to flee or fight back in different ways, even if you fail, the pain and death you suffer is not something unimaginable.

shit with ghosts/monsters/demons or whatever the fuck, strikes fear into me because of the unknown, the lack of knowledge known to stop these kinda things, even though i don't believe in that shit, your imagination just gets you, ya know?

i mean, what the fuck happens to the people in the grudge? i mean, wtf? WHERE THE FUCK DO THEY GO? u cant hide from that shit! what about the ring? those people's faces looked so fucked up, the fear that strikes them is beyond human comprehension. it's scary. it's scary cuz you can't stop it. not even with a fucking nuke.

i mean it really comes down to this, what's more scary, a psycho out to get you, or some supernatural scary being out to get you.

but you know, who ya gonna call?

Ghost busters!

But the whole unimaginable pain part.... What about Hostel? There was pretty much nothing you could do and the pain and death are pretty unimaginable.

doesn't look that scary in the trailer

Crowtservo 10-12-2009 05:28 PM

Paranormal Activity did really well at the film festivals. They decided to show it in 30 something cities for midnight shows and it grossed more than half a million. This weekend it's playing at even more theatres and at more times but I haven't heard anything about Vancouver (or Montreal where I am). There is some kind of campaign where you can demand it play at a theatre near you and if there is enough demand they will show it. It's supposed to come out on DVD soon though anyway so you won't have to wait too long.

The hype isn't so much that it's the scariest movie ever but that it's so scary and made for only $10,000 or so. It's kind of like the blair witch project except good.

Yeah the audience is kind of ridiculous but you have to realize they obviously only show the most exaggerated responses. Also if you ever go to early releases of movies like this the audience is always really into it which adds a lot to the experience.

In terms of scary I think the fourth kind certainly has potential to be a scarier/better movie but how much do you think it cost to make? A few guys and a camera managed to make a believable, good and scary enough movie without any money and I think they deserve a lot of credit for that.

I saw online today that it's playing at the scotia bank theatre here too (Montreal). Definitely going tomorrow night.

d1 10-15-2009 06:55 PM

Please report back if the movie is actually good or if it's just all hype.

silk 10-15-2009 07:07 PM

sTi-K 10-15-2009 11:01 PM

it better be as scary as they say it is.. cuz the trailer blows big time

twitchyzero 10-15-2009 11:07 PM

i cant see how this could be better than blair witch project..which was crap

hotjoint 10-16-2009 06:48 AM

I can't see how it could possibly be worse. Blair witch was only good if you went into it believing it was real (or possible) but on the whole it was a really terrible movie.

As I explained in the other thread about this movie, the hype isn't that it's the scariest movie ever, it's because it cost around $10,000 to make and they managed to create a movie on par with hollywood thrillers.

eddoe 10-16-2009 11:21 PM

So no one has seen it yet? Made from a $15,000 budget, I wonder how scary it can get?

J32A2-S 10-16-2009 11:48 PM

saw it tonight

it was pretty boring for the first half but it slowly picks up and gradually pays off
pretty well made I'd say for 15K! Some genuinely scary moments! I've never found any American made horrors scary at all...but this one def. gave me some chills down the spine
People applauded at the end while still speechless~

worth the ticket and trip d/t to see it IMO~

i liked this movie alot, was it scary? alil bit, but it was definately freaky. after u get over the fact that its filmed like a documentary, it feels quite believeable.

I think its the documentary style that makes it even scarier because it comes off as being more true and "believable"

I think the first half was a little slow but it was used to build up the last half which was awesome.

I've never screamed in a theatre before but this movie made me along with 90% of the theatre scream :p

phantom x 10-18-2009 08:49 AM

i saw it last night ,. it was awesome , really well done !!
