Saw it last night too. Really well done, pretty scary and really believable (as believable as a movie like this could be anyway). I was really impressed considering the circumstances.

Saw the midnight showing last night with a bunch of people. Really...a midnight showing is the best time to make new friends and get free popcorn =) Surprisingly not as packed as I thought it would be...but I guess it will when word gets out. See it soon, grab your tickets early, grab food and chill then come back an hour before the movie and just chat with the ppl around you.

Girl's "Technical" Review:

This was great movie for a few reasons. It plays on the true essence of fear and suspense. Every scene was calculated to psyche the audience, some may find the beginning too slow, but without that and Micah's god-forsaken jokes that were so inappropriately funny, there wouldn't be a silent audience holding their breath in anticipation for about 30 seconds after the movie was over.

The movie's like an after-thought, most of the scare comes at the end of the movie and really starts when you leave the theatre. But in all honesty, there was no one scene that used anything we'd consider "horror" throughout the movie. Maybe a few drops of blood, but there were no heads chopped off, no crazy makeup...actually no makeup at all as you can clearly tell from Katie's freckles, cellulite, wrinkles, etc. throughout the movie =P It's brilliant because unlike 28 Days Later, Exorcist, Saw, etc it's not using gore, makeup, special effects, it's using our imagination by doing what movies should be doing...telling a story and generating thought & reaction within the audience. Cuz seriously how can one of the scariest parts be a scene of an empty room or a girl just standing there or even just a girl smiling?

I enjoyed the overly blunt foreshadowing right in the beginning of the movie. The director is truly a story teller.

Girl's "Insider" Advice:

The first 30 seconds was a huge groan...very Blair Witch Project with the moving around, but creating that first dread made the movie a lot better lol. I suggest anyone that's sick or gets motion sickness easy to close their eyes for the first 30 seconds.

There's usually one focus point in the scary scenes that make you scared after you leave the theatre and it'll always drag your mind back to that focus point. Like it could be a scene of an empty car and in the whole scene the focus point is the steering wheel even though everything else seems scary but the steering wheel is whats going to keep directing you back to that scene later on cuz of its gaudy faux fur finishing ...then uh...don't keep staring at the damn furry steering wheel? If you want to sleep that is...

Girl's "Movie-Buddy" Advice:

For the ladies, I suggest going with a guy just because it really isn't the same holding onto your skinny ass girlfriends. Guys should bring a girl you want to get close to, cuz this girl will be holding onto you throughout the whole damn movie and will probably not want to go home afterwards just yet ;)

If you do end up sitting next to a stranger and he/she is cute... best time to pull out the "I'm apologizing in advance for any screaming, jumping or groping" line ;) I just did cuz I literally was going to...oh well I got free popcorn, copped a feel here and there and a discount on my water! Bring a friend that likes to crack jokes...it'll save you if ur the weak at heart.

Girl's Questions:

1) How is it that a young couple like themselves are in bed by midnight every single effing night when they don't have to be up for work or school early the next day? Well...one of them technically did but it almost seemed like their work/school schedules were non-existent.

2) Do these people have family and friends?! Like seriously.

3) Why is it that Katie's legs look slimmer in her booty shorts than in her jeans?

4) Why don't a young couple like them have more sex? Uh...okay ya so they're being haunted...I get it! But they werent being haunted that much in the beginning and come on! Guy with a new camera is like a guy with a free pack of Viagra!

5) Is it me or does Micah remind you of a mixture of Justin Long and Adam Levine from Maroon 5 just a little....very little?

6) How is it that Katie sleeps in her black tank top during the first night or first few nights? She gets up and is in some white hoodie and green tank top then in the afternoon she's changed again?! Like are we that tank top and shorts happy?

7) Who studies during a haunting?!

Went last night for the midnight showing and tickets were close to being sold out around 10. There was a lineup waiting to get into the theatre at 11. It probably won't be as bad tonight since people have work tomorrow but it would still be a good idea to go early.

JHatta 10-18-2009 06:25 PM

ok fuck that

i hate people

and i hate full theaters full of whispering teenagers and ppl who talk to movies.

d1 10-18-2009 06:36 PM

It wasn't as scary as I'd hoped it'd be but it was still decent. I wouldn't watch it again though.

teddyah 10-18-2009 09:45 PM

I didn't find it scary at all...... the camera gave me a headache and the editing was poorly done!!

RayBot 10-19-2009 11:02 AM

I just saw it yesterday....

Is it a good movie?? NO
Is it worth watching again?? NO
Is it overhyped?? Yes

But on the positive side...the movie goes really well with the season. Its genuinely and originally (arguable) freaky. I do adore a good ghost story. Sure its not the best ghost story, but nothing like this has been done and shown on the big screen. I think its worth checking out, and i think its worth telling friends to see the film....not as a movie, but more of an experience than anything else. Its worth checking out once, but only once. Its not worth lining up for, yet its not worth waiting for when it comes out to dvd. And on top of that, i don't think downloading it will provide the best experience either. Yes the commercials are overhyped, but as i said....think of it more as just an experience or something to check out rather than a movie.
The film is worth keeping an open mind for.

I also can't seem to find any other theaters playing this. Did everything see this in Scotia Bank theater?

Not really racist! 10-19-2009 04:23 PM

Yes, I believe its only Scotiabank..

ab-norma-l 10-19-2009 06:06 PM

I saw this a few days ago and thought it was pretty good! It definately scared me but I wish I didn't see the trailer prior to seeing the movie. If you go into the movie not knowing what to expect, it would have been better.

Totally a movie to bring a date to, the girl will be clinging onto you for dear life and will NOT want to sleep alone that night ;)

Apparently it's a different ending then the theater version but I'll watch it anyway.

My media room although no theater is the next best thing, I'll take my chances. If it was playing locally I'd go see it but I'm not driving to Vancouver for a movie.

Likewise. I'll just hook up my laptop to my TV and watch it in bed with the gf.

Really good movie, but you have to walk in on it with the right attitude. Considering the timing of the release of the movie (halloween) you have to be willing to buy into your gullibility and you'll enjoy it more. If you walk into it with a skeptical/casual attitude, don't waste your money on it.
