First Billion-Dollar Athlete

Forbes magazine has announced that Tiger Woods has become the first athlete to make over 1 billion dollars in career earnings!!! It came after he earned 10 million for winning the FedEx Cup on Sunday. The only other athletes to come close are Michael Jordan who earned $800 million and Formula One driver Michael Schumacher at $700 million.

I always thought Jordan was earning the most, with his clothes and shoes

WHEYsted 10-02-2009 08:05 PM

^ Tiger does the same shit, but he makes tens of millions after a tournament which he frequently does well in...

Thoese are sponsers, this is just from winnings/contracts in their sports.

R u sure? I'm pretty sure he didn't make 1 billion dollars just from golf, I think this is merely on how much he has made as and athlete, sponsors, endorsements, winnings, contracts and everything combined. I didn't read the link but I read on the pervious forbes that he makes about 100million a year and that includes everything from endorsements to winnings.

Woods had earned a cumulative $895 million going into 2009, by our estimates, from prize money, appearance fees, endorsements, bonuses and his golf course design business. If you add his $10.5 million in 2009 prize money, the FedEx bonus and his take so far this year from his more than $100 million in annual off-the-course earnings, Woods' career earnings are now 10 figures.
yup, everything

Ducdesmo 10-02-2009 09:08 PM

What the hell is he gonna do with all that money..thats an isane amount.

moomooCow 10-02-2009 09:09 PM

Not really racist! 10-02-2009 09:14 PM

Ch28 10-02-2009 09:15 PM

he's not lucky, he's just good at what he do best

Drift_Monkey 10-02-2009 10:54 PM

not only is he rich, he is the youngest athlete to make that much money

TRDood 10-02-2009 11:12 PM

how can you compare MJ's wage and Tiger's wage?
they are 10-15 years apart. assuming inflation rate is about 2%-3% a year, the figure as of today would be pretty damn close!

normalize tiger's wage to jordan's time, or vice versa and compare.

bimmer91 10-02-2009 11:25 PM

1 billion fucking dollars, and he swings a club at a ball... fuck me upside down.

liu13 10-02-2009 11:28 PM

i thought schumacher or whatever his name is was the first billionaire athlete

StylinRed 10-03-2009 12:46 AM

They said Schumacher had $800+ million in 2006 and that's after giving away like $75million

tamazoid 10-03-2009 04:42 AM

I'm sure if Schumacher was still racing, he would've been first... Or really close!

+1!!

but...tiger woods is really talented in golf.

heleu 10-03-2009 10:51 AM

How old is Tiger?

The difference between Michael and Schumacher is that they are past their prime. Tiger can keep playing golf until he is a senior - and then he would still get endorsement for playing in the seniors tournaments!!!

StylinRed 10-03-2009 10:59 AM

Jordan quit playing when he was still in his prime though, and before the more outrageous wages

Schumacher could have kept going, hell if his neck wasn't fucked i bet he'd still be owning it up as a Massa replacement

penner2k 10-03-2009 11:56 AM

Tiger Woods is a cheater..
How is getting laser eye surgery to get better then perfect eye sight any different then a baseball player taking roids?
