First Car Tips?

So I've been wanting to buy a vehicle to learn on so I can drive it as soon as I get my license, and was hoping to get some tips/pointers on what to look for when buying a car, and maybe some basic maintainance tips for said car.

Anything helpful is greatly appreciated.

my first vehicle was cheap, fixable, reliable. i had a 94' 4Runner SR5. bought it for $2200 and sold it for $5000 after i fixed it up and drove it for a year.
find something you can affordably work on.

best tip... take a friend or family member who knows a thing or two about cars with u.. sure it may "look" and "sound" good just to look at it.. but some one with a keen eye will catch issues others wont..

like I said before, if you're heading down to sfu for college next year there's no point in buying a car this year cause then you have to worry about gas and insurance on it while you're here and won't have money for other things.

Something reliable. Sounds like this will be a second hand car, so I would suggest something Japanese. Toyota Camry, Honda Accords are reliable cars that wont burn a hole in your wallet for gas and insurance.

Buy a car that your not going be tempted to modify or be easily modable *aka civics*

but, i just saw ur from kamloops, so i guess my advice cant really apply to u cause since u guys mod any car, even daewoo's and dodge caravans

yup. any older honda (88-95) will do wonders for you, and plus if somethin ever breaks down the majority of ppl on this website could prolly help you wit a new part, me and my buddys have a very larrrrge stockpile of parts as well. I have a good majority of mine in the buy sell forum. But regardless you cant go wrong with any japanese sport compact.....except rotary.lawlz.
