But who knows, I'm not a believer myself, but I am very curious. The Mayans weren't the only ones to predict the 2012 date and they did predict the demise of their own civilization. I'm sure knowledge was lost over the years and we can only take a guess at the calendar's meaning... nobody's sure what old sites like stone henge were really for. The Mayan calendar could be a doomsday prophecy or a popular home decoration...

Sorry to revive an old ass thread, but I didn't want to make a new one for such an insane idea.
But, the more I watch ancient aliens the more Dec 21, 2012 scares me.
I mean, realistically, I do not think 2012 really means anything.
But, this ancient alien shit is messing with my mind.
One, I am now opened to the idea of aliens. Which I wasn't before. And to me that sounds totally fucked.
And since all the ancient civilizations have some account of "gods" and their technology to build massive structures and move 100-1000 tonne rocks with ease is just beyond me. What if aliens do exist and the mayan calendar was based on stuff aliens told them etc.
I know I sound like a crazy person and I would have never though this way if I didn't watch the damn ancient aliens series... fuck I sound stupid
But, does anyone else have an inkling like this as well?

I imagine this will be your progression as well...
Or perhaps regression is the more appropriate word...

wow... reading about ancient aliens show on here i thought i would check it out.... alien swords alien greek fire... rofl
some of its claim is very ridiculous and totally rule out out other possiblities but than it does makes you wonder about alot of the ancient structure how they were built and its ultimate purpose. Engineer and scientist still debate on how the egyptian pyramids were built. Many scientific research points to the spinx being ALOT older than the pyramid...
one thing i enjoy about ancient alien series is how it basically deny the existence of god by using holy literature as one of their "proof" for alien. makes a fool of religion lol, make u see how silly alot of the religious stuff ah

I don't think the show denies the existence of "God", i think they just imply that God to the people was aliens.

All civilizations, tribes, culture groups (ancient and current), etc. have some form of belief in something bigger than themselves to explain things that they do not understand.
Why does the sun rise?
Why does the moon rise?
What happens when you die?
Why won't it rain?
etc...
The Mayans are/were no different than any other "ancient" civilization. All had some form of calendars or concept of time, a lot of them made "sacrifices" (the Aztecs were the most brutal), all worshiped some form of deity or deities, and in the same aspect of today's civilization, they had "forward" or advanced thinking. Ever civilization had a Steve Jobs or Stephen Hawkings. These people come up with ideas to build huge monumental structures that take, sometimes up to 50 years and tens of thousand of hands to build.
Mayan pyramids
Aztec Pyramids
The basalt heads of the Olmec
Egyptian pyramids
Roman aqueducts
Great Zimbabwe
Stonehenge
Machu Picchu
Moai on Rapa Nui
etc....etc....etc...
I could go on and on about the stone work at Machu Picchu and how it is far superior to that of the pyramids at Giza, but just because their technology to build such great structure is overwhelming, it doesn't mean that they were no capable of doing it and that ET are the answer.
We are talking about 2 and sometimes 3 generations of people building these structures....non-stop....everyday...all day. At the base of the pyramids on Giza, archaeologist have uncovered hundreds structures that houses 100s and 1000s of workers, etc.
Yes, they moved 100's- 1000s of tonnes of rock....it seems unimaginable, but they did. These people were modern homo sapiens. Same bodies and minds as us.
If you think about it, "our" modern civilization and the evolution of religion, you will see that as science has been able to explain things to us (i.e. the sun rising) religion's role in our culture has played a less and less significant role. In fact, the majority of modern religion just focuses on death and what happens after as that is the one thing we still can not answer. We no longer turn to god at night and ask him/her to rise the run in the morning....we no longer sacrifice a dog or have a guy cut his penis, drain the blood on a leaf and light it on fire to appease the gods so it will rain before our harvest, etc.
We have no way that we can relate to "ancient" civilizations...so instead of saying, "they just worked really hard for a long time", we say that some ET built it. Isn't that just like them praying to Kinich Ahau to raise the sun every morning. Because we don't get it/understand it, we invent something that we think did.

mayan's couldnt even predict the end of their civilization
according to wikipedia, they are located in guatemala, but have evolved into different races.
similar to the ancient chinese, they became many different cultures of chinese. in china, there are probably over 20 different kind of chinese people that speaks different kind of chinese.
not all mayans were could at astrology and predicting time. only the few who could read the carvings on the temple do.
