some speculation on my part:

-built as a halloween prop and not designed for passenger(s)
-filled with enough gas to get it off the ground
-added weight of a six year old would require more gas then they had in it and the cardboard "cabin" wouldn't have supported an individual even a small child.
-kids accidentally let the balloon go and panicked and the smaller kid is hiding not necessarily in his house.

I was thinking UFO prop for halloween when I first the news...

"He's at the house and he's fine," said Larimer County Sheriff Jim Alderden, shortly after 4 p.m. He was hiding in a carcboard box in the attic above the garage.

For more than four hours, authorities believed the boy was in a hot air balloon that was floating over Colorado. The balloon landed about 2 miles northeast of Prospect Reservoir at 1:35 p.m., in Weld County, but the boy was not inside. That's about 50 miles from where the balloon lifted off.

parents must be relieved and then pissed once they get the bill for the chase

jigjag 10-15-2009 02:31 PM

1 - Stupid effing story.

2 - Stupid effing parents (dad specifically) for even letting the possibility of their kid getting in and floating off.

3 - Stupid effing kid for freaking out and thinking he was in trouble for losing his dad's toy. But to explain why he would get so scared and hide in the attic, pls refer back to point #2.

Effin yankees.

quasi 10-15-2009 02:51 PM

Glad he was found alive and the kid isn't stupid, he is very young 6 years old to be exact and was obviously terrified he let his dads balloon get away.

Drift_Monkey 10-15-2009 03:19 PM

Thats true, once someone has them their outlook changes. You start to imagine if it was your kid, they are seriously innocent and impressionable like a mould of clay, completley innocent. Now when I hear about something bad happening to anyones kid it bugs me a lot.

I was watching a presentation at work in a room full of people and when it was done they opened a browser. Their home page listed that as a news story and when I noticed it I started laughing.

I got some glares from the mothers in the room.

i never did anything remotely as dangerous/ballsy as mess with my dad's shit as a kid. i knew better because i was taught not to screw around with his stuff!

kid is hardly innocent, 6yr olds know the difference between right and wrong.

static 10-15-2009 08:41 PM

these parents are terrible. they made this shit up, the kid admits on wolf blitzer that he was not to come out cause "we did it for the show..."

Gotta love how the mom lets out a guilty, nervous fart right after the kid accidentally rats them out. The two other kids looking over at her just adds to the moment lol.

static 10-15-2009 09:49 PM

kids name is falcon....falcon PUNCH ?

yes the nervous sigh is awesome.
