LR3 does an amazing job with the Canon 7D RAW files. Kinda a shitty deal for me too, as I just bought LR2 a few months ago.

I wouldn't trust a beta to handle my entire photo library! Might be fun to play around with though.

I just used LR3 to process through a shoot yesterday, and I didn't come up with any problems. I did have problems while trying to remove files tho. It wouldn't group delete a bunch of files I selected.

So far LR3 works very well, and I am planning to buy it once it comes out

LR3 catalogs are not compatible with existing LR2 catalogs FYI.

It should. It may not be activated in the current beta though. Looks like it'll be coming out in the Spring.

Will LR3 have the same pricing as LR2 right now; $299 USD? I am guessing it could vary depending on the market, but it should be priced the same as a current LR2? Or would it be more expensive since its going to be newer?

Whatever they (adobe) do, post processing is still going to be a pain in the ass.

Anyone else notice extra grainy areas at 100% crop compared to LR 2?

The noise issue has already been addressed in the lightroom forum with examples. After all this is just a beta, so there will be many issues I'm sure. I was using the trial version of Lightroom 2 until my 30 days expired, and found it perfect for my needs since I'm not much of a photoshopper. I look forward to see how lightroom 3 in the final release. Now my problem is that I was about to purchase LR2, so do I wait and struggle through with the beta or still buy LR2 and upgrade after april when LR3 is supposed to be realeased...

I am in the same boat as you. Going to wait until LR3 is released before I buy it.

As of now, IMHO, Capture One 4 Pro is much better than Lightroom regarding RAW file conversion, colour management and general post-processing. Lightroom is much better than Capture One with DAM (Digital Asset Management) though.

The colour and detail rendition of Capture One is superb. While the new Adobe Lightroom 3 beta is promising from an image quality standpoint, it still has the annoying feature of differential sharpening across the image, applying much less in deep shadows. This makes some images look a little "over-processed" at times, something that Capture One thankfully, since version 4 on, does not seem to do anymore. Depending on the image, sometimes I do prefer Adobe's approach and other times I prefer the more uniform Capture One approach, despite the white speck issue (with 7D RAW files). BTW, I can minimize the white specks in Capture One with either the Luminance NR or the new Long Exposure NR, but they both have too much of an impact on image sharpness in the cases I have tried. Using Dust and Scratches in Photoshop to get rid of the specks is far more effective and with the settings at radius 1, threshold 40 (or thereabouts) can easily be fixed almost automatically in Photoshop, but it would be awesome if one could avoid that step. This has virtually zero impact on regular image detail too.

So, if DAM is more important to you than ease of post-processing, get Lightroom. If you find that your images need to have very thorough colour management, then Capture One is for you.
