general saying that is useful is

"you get what you pay for"

usually ebay kits dont fit to well, and they are not built with quality parts...premature failures etc...

Phil@rise 10-28-2009 09:53 AM

I have yet to see a good cheap turbo kit. What motor is in your 240?

QuoteWarz 10-28-2009 01:12 PM

Yes, I agree you usually get what you pay for.

erick gutierrez 10-28-2009 02:52 PM

i have the regular ka 2.4L engine

FeistyBearH22a 10-28-2009 04:55 PM

One word... Don't

Unless you're going with a "home made turbo" build. Knowing full well the ebay turbo you buy wont run reliably for any length of time.

00EM1 10-28-2009 08:04 PM

cheap
fast
reliable

you can only choose 2

your much beter off just peicing together a kit, buying parts when there a good deal or you have the money.

JHatta 10-28-2009 08:47 PM

you really needed a second opinion on this??

Lomac 10-28-2009 09:21 PM

Here's my school of thought on Ebay kits... First off, be careful of which kits you're looking at purchasing. Many out there are cheap knock offs of more expensive kits sold by other companies, and have poor welds on the pipes or a poorly rebuilt turbo. However, I do know some legit companies actually do sell excess stock of high quality kits on Ebay, often under a different name. You just have to be wary of which vendors you're looking at.

can we actualy get some words from the ppl that ACTUALY bought, used the ebay turbos... and not the ppl who just read about it...

why would anyone waste money on a kit that has been provin to not fit or run properly?...its obvious that more than one person has stated that majority of ebay kits are junk...it is not comming from one person...browse the internet and theres more than enough reviews about "ebay turbokits"

$5000 genuine kit vs $899 ebay kit with identical parts....you tell me where the corners were cut??...

jbsali 10-29-2009 02:19 PM

a friend of mine has boughten numerous cars and put ebay turbos in them. hes had no issues with them but the guy has done tons of turbo installs so i guess he knows what hes looking for. i wouldnt buy one off ebay but thats just me... plus ive never done a turbo install

Supafly 10-30-2009 06:36 AM

lol phucmang,....you failed me because you got proven wrong; just goes to show how mature you are.

c32 10-30-2009 06:52 AM

lmfao.. ok.... i was proven wrong of what? i did not state anything about the turbo not working well or not..... i just asked for someone that actualy has an ebay turbo to post up on this thread....

reason i failed u is cuz u failed me..... and also cuz u dont have a ebay turbo and ur still posting...

well anyways lets not get into a little hissy fit and keep this thread clean..

so i was on clubintegra.com and someone made a thread about an Ebay turbo... i read that some work, some dont, main problems is header cracks? and turbo is shitty.. but they say its luck, some will work some dont.... just what i read on the thread..
so they say that if u replace the turbo with a good turbo and the headers it should be good to go... but that is just what i read and not from personal experience... i one day wanna install my own turbo... always wanted to rip the crap outa a turbo car and hear the BOV go SCHHE fucking sick...

So when you buy a kit, then replace the turbo + header....whats left of the original kit? almost nothing besides cheap 2.5" tubing, silicone hoses, metal brackets and some couplings.
a turbo kits life is the Turbo itself and the exhaust manifold....those two items alone cost 3000 bucks...no need to spend 1000 bucks on a kit, then spend another 4000 bucks to diagnose a problem that occured, and buying the replacement parts. Time down = money...and dont forget about all the headaches that may arise...
Its better to buy a decent kit from a local reputable shop and have a piece of mind rather than going cheap for an ebay kit and gambling with your motor and money....

i personally would not want a compressor to shred its blades and destroy my intercooler, or worse having the wastegate seal fail and blowing my motor to shit.:)

i have owned a built and turbo'd car previously, and i can personally say, if you the cash to turbo, do it right the first time.

c32 10-30-2009 08:05 AM

so lets say someone got an ebay kit... and like what ppl say happens, the header cracks and the turbo breaks or whatever... would this possibly mess up engine parts? i dont see how it could... well if it wont mess up anything in the engine besides the turbo or the manifold, then wouldnt it be worth a shot in a ebay kit? unless a broken manifold or turbo could mess up engine parts then i would see why ebay kits are not worth it.. what else is better then a cheap ebay kit running? well it prob wouldnt last anyways..

-if your compressor fails...you can end up having metal compressor blades in your intake manifold, even with an intercooler.
-if your intercooler doesnt work efficiently, you can overheat and lift the head on the motor.
- if your compressors bearings are junk you can sieze up and spew oil everywhere into your exhaust system...(not a good thing when your EGT is 900+ degrees F)
- you can have your turbine blades break off and shred parts behind it..
- if your wastegate actuator does not work, you can boost spike and blow your motor.
- if you do not use a standalone ecu, but use a cheap piggyback system, it can fail which will yeild a lean mixture and you will blow your motor...
if you have bad welds, you can have FOD parts(slag) being sucked into your motor which will cause it to sieze up and break parts...
theres alot of things that can happen....the reason why REAL kits are expensive is because of the R&D that has been put into them aswell as the quality control.
Ebay kits from china do not have a set standard for quality control, hence the reason for cheap prices.

To the OP: Fix your ticking problem before adding more components to your engine.

How about we keep it just a tad bit civilized. Yes you can definitely ruin a motor if your turbo broke. If the journals fail on the turbine (which is usually the case) the fins start hitting the housing causing breakage. Do you know where those pieces usually end up?

Sounds to me you will hear what you want to hear. As I said, if you want a hack type of job go to homemadeturbo.com. They are pros at making shit parts work. But when it comes down to it. You shouldn't cheap out on a turbocharger. Homemadeturbo guys use QUALITY turbos.

FeistyBearH22a 10-30-2009 03:36 PM

In addition. I dont really have anything against ebay intercooler piping. The pipe is pipe. The only trouble is that they usually fit really shitty. And its up to you to modify it to fit to your own needs. With that being said a lot of the turbo build depends on having done shit PROPERLY. You can have the best parts in the world and have it fail because of shitty workmanship/install/tune.

wtf why did u fail me.... well i geuss u r gonna get a taste of what it feels like... hey look u got no fails what a suprise

El Bastardo 10-31-2009 12:28 PM

Damn. What a catfight.

I agree with Godwin tho. Make sure you don't have any contributory factors to engine breakdown like bad lifters before a serious mod like adding a turbo.

c32 10-31-2009 01:43 PM

Oh I can do more than just give you a fail. Your fail was WELL deserved, yours on the other hand...

But yeah keep it up. Give me a reason to ban your stupid ass.

DJA 11-02-2009 07:38 AM

Ive had friends who have bought turbos off of ebay... They are okay but dont tend to last as long you would expect without something in need of replacing lol.
