We aren’t though. 50% of the food grown in BC is in the Fraser valley. Beef comes from Alberta or cache creek. Eggs come from abbotsford. Dairy comes from abbotsford. Produce comes from the interior. Sure you can eat the plastic stuff coming from China or the local free range toilet paper if you really want, but the stuff that keeps us actually alive is cut off.

Meat and whatnot yes, but I’d say over 75% of Costcos fresh food is from the state or more south.

Can’t speak to other retailers but almost all fruit and veg I buy from Costco are not from Canada. A lot of the baked goods are either in house or this side of Abbotsford etc.

All of the flour, butter, etc for those baked goods comes from Saskatchewan to interior BC. Anything from the US that isn’t coming from across the peace arch border also can not make it here.
I’ve had dozens of emails and phone calls with suppliers that supply restaurants, grocery stores, markets, etc essentially say we are fucked.
Trust me on this one lol.

Haha those might be the only things we are left with an abundance of. Don’t get me wrong. We still have food that comes down the I5 from California and the buyers of these distributors our looking for substitutes that can get here, but it’s going to be a logistical nightmare and we will get hit fuckin hard. If you can hunt, I can butcher.

For most homes most of our fruits are veggies are not local at this time of year and it comes from the south or over the ocean, I have no concerns for those so great if you are vegetarian.

Meat and dairy and eggs would be a problem. There's always seafood.

The hard goods we probably have enough of for awhile. Yeah you can hoard toilet paper but there's enough to go around.

Lol I heard this morning on the news out of all things they said we're gonna have a shortage of fucking weed, cuz lots of weed fields are grown in Abby, and that they will have transport issues with weed due to all the floods and closures cuz you need specialised transport for weed.

The Mayor added that overnight, 184 residents who could not safely evacuate the Sumas Prairie were rescued by water and air. Individuals are continuing to be evacuated as needed and an aerial assessment of the area is currently underway.

He also added that it was the City’s decision to not activate the provincial alert system.

“I want to be very clear here,” he stressed. “It was our decision not to activate the provincial alert-ready system for the whole city of 162,000 people at that time, as we wanted to directly contact the 300 people who live in Sumas Prairie. And those 300 people all know there’s an emergency by just looking outside of their window so we didn’t want to alarm the whole city.”

“I am in continuous contact with government leaders and appreciate their offers for full support as we continue to address this emergency and our recovery, which is to come. The safety of Abbotsford residents remains everyone’s priority.”

We don’t get to just get extra fruits and veggies so everyone can have a vegetarian diet. People who can’t get meat, eggs, dairy will be buying these products in larger quantities if it comes down to it.
If a selection of the population needs 100 tons of food and it’s
20 tons meat
20 tons dairy
20 tons eggs
40 tons fruit and veggies, and we remove 10 tons from each of the first categories, 30 tons of vegetables won’t magically appear to make up that gap.
It will come with massive price increases, supply gaps and other issues. Not to mention, as I said, these American grown vegetables aren’t just coming straight down the I5. They are coming from Idaho, Washington, Arizona, New Mexico, etc and coming across the border near abbotsford.
I’m not saying that we will guaranteed be fucked, but I am saying the supply lines are super complex for this food, and there isn’t just bonus food waiting in the wings to fill in the gaps.

Can't speak for meat but for produce yes. Most of the stuff we consume follow the I5 corridor.
Truck Xing will be busy AF as drivers may avoid Abbyford.
I'm not expecting that part to change too much and no real supply gaps.

Biggest concern is getting containers off the ships as there is already a back log of containers to go to eastern Canada and this flooding isn't helping.

Well most of it actually doesn’t though.
If it did we’d have logged it all for toilet paper anyways.

I gotta get a chest freezer for the patio so I can have room to butcher whole animals and pack it. I miss getting to do that all the time at work.

I just finished smoking like 20lbs of deer pepperoni.

Also threw a bunch of cuts into the freezer.

Guess if there's a shortage, I'll just eat that.
