SpuGen 11-05-2009 07:48 PM

They've been doing that for years now....

thumper 11-05-2009 07:52 PM

spugen: it's new to me sorry :o

when something like this goes out to race at some track event, what would it be classed as? do they go by what engine it has, or the chassis?

shenmecar 11-05-2009 08:06 PM

They put that V8 everywhere! FCs, EGs, S14s. If it fits, it goes in. If it doesnt fit, they will make it fit, it goes in.

i've been obviously living under a rock... i've only seen these go into FD RX-7's, a nissan hardbody pickup truck, and a honda civic :o

ilvtofu 11-05-2009 08:40 PM

^comments are true, LS1 has been put in everything

Heck even Z31's have had LS swaps

!Tigger 11-05-2009 08:58 PM

dont forget that R33

TRD Rs200 11-05-2009 09:18 PM

http://www.sikky.com/index.php

I wish i found out about this site before I sold my 240sx. And if you go on www.ls1tech.com there is a section where it is dedicated to shoving LS series of engines into anything. I think one guy is working on a prius. and there is one old SL. even a bug eye subaru

Ford_Fanatic 11-05-2009 10:22 PM

Nice improvement if you ask me.

underscore 11-05-2009 11:27 PM

I don't get why these people have to ruin every car with that stupid motor. I don't care about power blah blah blah it's just annoying to me.

JSALES 11-06-2009 12:16 AM

LS1 can probably fit in any car if they want it too haha

SpuGen 11-06-2009 12:17 AM

Underscore:

You probably like the GTR too, don't you?

lets see, powerful, easy to tune, cheap to tune, light weight, reliable, oh and did i mention cheap?

if you're a purist then fine, stick with oem and spend 3x the money to get it running the same performance gains a LSx engine can give a car, otherwise dont hate the engine. There's a reason why everyones putting it everywhere, it's not just a trend and ppl do it for shits and giggles.

underscore 11-06-2009 02:28 AM

is it really that light? V8 vs a rotary in an RX7? I tend to see the rotaries drift, and the V8's just do burnouts and silly drags, but that's just me.

Wykydtron 11-06-2009 06:11 AM

Drags aren't silly. Plus, yes it is that light. Even though it's a bigger engine than a rotary, you're comparing aluminum to cast iron (correct me if I'm wrong). Large weight difference. I'm not a fan of dropping an LSx into XXXXXXX, but it's not my car. Do what you will with your car, and if it's done well, I'll still oggle over it :P

twixxer 11-06-2009 07:02 AM

ls1 ftw

from what I got from google the LS1 runs 50-100lb more than the rotaries (info's kinda hard to match up) and sits 6in further forward and higher. but the extra torque makes it quicker overall. interesting.

where do people get all these motors anyways? do Corvettes handle so badly that people total them all the time or something?

If I got a fd and i want to keep it I would get a LS1 swap for sure, its lighter, more power and its alot CHEAPER to maintain then the rotary engine
