This is the Toshiba I bought. Super thin bezel FTW. Don't know if they still offer that feature or not anymore.

Big companies are misleading people so much.
Sony XBR8, Sharp 700, Samsung 6,7,8,8500 are all LED Backlit. They are not real LEDs.
THey are using LCD panel + LED Backlit.

AGAIN, The only real LED is the SONY 11inch XEL1

Its selling at $1999 for a friggin 11inch OLED

See the link here
http://www.sonystyle.ca/commerce/ser...ionPath=n32050

We will starting to see the REAL LEDs in about 2 years in bigger size.

well yeah, they're organic LED's. IF they made a consumer, say 55" OLED TV it would be in the tens of thousands. Or you can wait a couple years and they'll be the norm.

Toshiba TVs are good value for the money.

But, if you're serious about picture quality, nothing beats Pioneer - just ask the guys on AVSForums. Pioneer Kuro panels are the best consumer grade TVs. It's just a shame that Pioneer is getting out of the plasma business.

The new king of plasma is Panasonic V10 with NeoPDP tech.

I have a Toshiba 42LX177 LCD. Pretty decent TV (bought it a few years back). Still kicking along quite nicely.

However, I do have a big gripe with the Toshiba 52" DLP rear projection that I have...it's gone through 4 bulbs already in the 5 years I've owned it. Each bulb costs about $150-200USD. People have complained on a lot of the forums about this but apparently Toshiba refuses to recognize it as a defect. I'm just waiting for this last bulb to die and this TV will be headed for the scrap heap.

may as well sell it now then and get some cash for it. if it goes through bulbs that fast sounds like ther'es too much power going through it, has noone tried to add a resistor or something?

Yeah...I seriously thought about that but since it's an older TV, I doubt I'd get little to nothing for it. (If I had to guess, I'd probably get $500 tops for it) At least it's working now, and I do have one more spare bulb for it so I'm just going to run through the bulbs and hopefully get a few years of life out of them. People are saying it's a poor bulb design. The last bulb I bought was actually a 3rd party bulb and these guys who created these bulbs claim to have "fixed" the issue. I'll see if that's the case when I go to use it.

I bought it in April 2005. Model is a 52HM84. I suspect the issue is with a specific bulb type rather than a Toshiba wide TV issue.

No, its not dying down.

Panasonic V10 is also the KING of ALL TVs this current year. (Not just plasma).

If there is V10 around your area, check it out.
It's AMAZING!!

Which one is better ? actually there is no real answer to that.

I would say, go by which-ever you are comfortable with.
Some people like colour of LCD, some like colour of plasma.

But, from a professional point of View, testing results, and spec numbers, High end Plasma performance is better than LCD, LED Backlit TV.
Whoever has professionally done their HomeTheater Room, usually, they will be going with Plasma TVs.

Myself have a really good Demo that will show you Plasma and LCD performance gap.
90% of my customer says "WOW" on plasma after i show them my demo...lol

A lot people think that Plasma is an older=bad technology. (This is the most reason i got from majority of customers who has no knowledge about TVs.)

and people is scared about Burn-in problem. (pretty much none for High End plasma TVs, but watch out for low end Plasmas)
Also, Plasma consumes more power.

Worst thing is, lots people telling other people "Go for LCD"
But they never ask why LCD ? They just go for wutever their "Friends" told them to get. LOL

I m no where near pro....=.= There are a lot crazy people on AVS forum...etc.

like i said, people should go for whichever you like.
Some people likes plasma colour better. but some like LCD better.

I was in the dilemma of Pioneer 50inch Kuro, or Samsung 55inch A950 LED. But i went for the size. LOL, And i have a dedicate HTPC hook up to my TV. I don't want burn-in problem as well. Thats why i got my Samsung 55A950 LED.

My friend has Pioneer Kuro 5010, Colour of his set looks so natural.
My set after colour calibration is very close to his set. But LED has blooming effects.... Plasma has no such issue.

But i still love my set.
I am happy with the blacks of my set.

Anyway ~

Plasma shows better details in Blacks. It has got higher contrast ratio.
Higher contrast ratio brings you better grey scale. I believe everyone knows that. Plasma has better colour depth. Image looks more 3D-like.
Plasma gives out better colour, The phosphors in a plasma display give off colored light when they are excited. Every pixel is made up of three separate subpixel cells, each with different colored phosphors. One subpixel has a red light phosphor, one subpixel has a green light phosphor and one subpixel has a blue light phosphor. These colors blend together to create the overall color of the pixel.
I still remember, In Vendor fare event of this year, In Panasonic section, showed a video of Fireworks on their V10. This unit is using NeoPDP, it is brightest Plasma i've never seen. This set can be so black, also can be really bright.
So, imagine in a dark night with Fireworks, what its ganna be like ?

Btw, Panasonic Z1 was in the room as well, MAN!! that tv is sexy!!!!

Here is one of the review for V10.

how? I never said he was wrong, I just wanted him to backup his claim. Also, his explanation of how the pixels work, is that not the same for an LCD? each pixel is made up of three/four cells, red/blue and 1 or sometimes 2 green. These combine to make up each pixel. I just read the CNet Plasma vs LCD, it's so obviously biased towards Plasma it's not even funny, still has some decent info though.

LED TV's will be amazing though, should have all of the best features from both LCD and Plasma more or less.

One question I have though, does Plasma still require the glass on top of the screen?
