I work YYJ (Victoria Base). The magic wears off really quickly. But if you want to come to the Island you can pretty much walk on the runway if you enter from the back of the airport.

Iona Beach is correct. You can park at various locations on the road leading up to Iona and watch from different perspectives.
There is also a small park on Russ Baker Way across from the BCIT Aerospace campus where you can practically sit under the path of the planes and watch them land right in front of you.

Finally, you can watch go to the end of River Road near No. 1 Road (Terra Nova area) and watch planes land from across the water. A lengthy walking trail goes along the water if that's your thing.

			What about this spot: http://maps.google.ca/maps?f=d&sourc...28152&t=h&z=15
I assume this would be for take offs/landings from the west (Asia etc). Does anyone know if that road is open?

I've been spotting planes since I was 10 years old and I must say Vancouver has the worst plane spotting locations. One of the best airports to spot planes has to be Heathrow.

CYXX (abbotsford) has a road running parallel to runway 07/25 and WestJet uses that runway. Albeit, much less frequent takeoffs/landings than YVR.

one alternative if ur sick of regular planes, is to go to flying beaver, a pretty nice pub right at the airport besides the water. You can watch hydro planes take off and land, pretty cool. Good food and a nice view too btw...

TOS'd , if you want to get a departure shot like that video, you need to find a spot at the end of the south runway (26L/08R) since they use that primarily for departures.

^ Alright thanks, I guess ill have to be on the east side of 26L, since the fence is blocking the entrance to the 08R side.
