weird smell coming from car

Hey guys

I have a 2006 infiniti g35 - it has about 18 K on it. I bought it used

I keep smelling this burning rubber smell after i get home - i drive on the hwy for about an hour from work. It doesnt seem to be coming from the tires and i checked the tire tread etc and it looks good. I opened the hood and it seems to be coming from there

There is no smoke or anything coming from the engine. Sometimes at a red light i can smell it a bit coming into the cabin - just mildly

I do drive the car hard and just wondering if this is normal or somethin i should get checked out.

To me it smells like the belts? but im not sure

let me know what you think it is/what i should do
thanks

if it's MT, you're probably owning your clutch like everyone said.

I drove a buncha those when i worked at nissan, and it's a harder car to get used to IMO... but if it's AT, you got a prob

I didn't see the OP state it, but forgive me if i didn't see it, it's 6:30am

id even check the under side of the car, you may have ran over a garbage plastic bag and its melted on the exhaust.

I don't think the clutch smells like burning rubber though.....

Maybe a hose??

Pop the hood when you get home and start sniffing around the engine bay.

its an auto...sorry i didnt mention that

I guess i will check for a plastic bag

I mean the car was detailed when i bought it a few months ago...i have put about 10,000K since the purchase - i would think any engine cleaner etc would burn off by now?

The smell seems to be coming from the engine bay though, not the exhaust area - hope its nothing serious

thanks

check your fluids man

since you drive the car hard it could be that the fluids need changing

check both transmission and engine oil
while ur at it, check coolant levels and condition

this happend to my 08 g35x and it was also burning rubber smell and seemed to be coming out of the grill. infact it made my whole garage smell like rubber. I just left it and it dedcided not to smell anymore.

mind you, this happened when i bought my car new, and i left it cuz i thought it was breaking in.

i just got the oil changed and tranny fluid - a few weeks ago.

The smell was there before i got the service done - still there now, if anything a bit worse

I guess I will have to get it checked out then
I will check all the fluids today. I checked the coolant level the other day when i was sniffing around - it was ok
