I wouldnt goto a store to see which looks best. They have them setup to make the more expensive 1's look that much better. Do your research online and find out what suits your needs. Best Buy online will tell what size is proper for viewing. Ive gone from a 32 > 40 > 52. Im now happy with the 52 but ill go with a 55 next time :)

This is not totally true.

For me, I always show exact the same source to my customers.
Same disc, same blu ray player, same cable, same default setting as well. :D:D:D:D

Thats just what i was told by a friend who worked at futureshop about 3 years ago.
Maybe its changed, maybe not every store does it. I could be wrong.

Go with a Pioneer if you can find one or a Panny or a Samsung. The top of the line LG led is also up there too.

I think people that are Sharp fans are just bandwagon jumpers cuz they own it.

If you do any research on LCD tv's you'll learn alot about each brand and their pros/cons.

If you want the best in pic/colour quality go to a Pioneer or Panasonic plasma.

As underscore said, the Samsung and Sony's use the same panels but Sony uses their own video processing chips. All in all kinda useless for the extra money you need to spend.

Thanks everyone!!! I'm probably going to go with the Samsung. One question is that do you think 52inches is to big to watch 8-9 feet away? I plan to play games on it but the guy in the store said you might get dizzy.

I have a 46" and I'm about 7-8 ft away and wish I went with a 52"

Especially for gaming.

I'm running a 6series Samsung also. Awesome bang for the dollar. I tried a comparable LG LCD but has two of them have issues within hours of using it (one fried and one had 200+ dead pixels). So I opted for a Sharp originally, but after extensive research on a couple models I was thinking of buying, found out there were quite a few issues (Price for sharp was cheaper than an LG which seemed odd). Either way I tried the samsung and holy crap did it blow the LG away.

Oh yeah, Westcoastgsr don't forget you need to Calibrate your TV (Plasma's especially after breakin period). Search a couple home theatre forums and you'll find tons of people post their settings and you can play with it from there, or you could spend a couple hours and do it yourself from scratch. Everyone's setup is a little different. Everything plays a factor. The lighting, the natural daylight, the distance, colour of walls, etc etc. So no one's setup is identical.

If you are saying that Samsung and Sony uses the same screens... according articles i've read, Sony buys their shit from Sharp.

Do NOT check them out in store. They tend to hook them up to shittier SD feeds so you can't really tell the real difference between the two. i.e. hook up the tv they want to sell more of to a nicer HD feed/calibrated properly etc.

Just wait for a hockey game, once you've seen a game in HD anything less makes baby jesus cry. And if you don't already have one get a PS3 + BR remote + blurays/uncompressed 1080p downloads.

I got the 610, I dont know how I watched tv before. Only shitty thing is the SD channels look like shit, my old CRT HDTV was so clear but only 32 inches.

Sony and Samsung had a collaborative contract that expired last year whereby they developed the panels together and they were manufactured at Samsung's facilities (the operation of which was, obviously, partially funded by Sony).

When the contract expired, Sony and Samsung parted ways and Sony hooked up w/ Sharp. The 2009 Sony products either use older Sony/Samsung panels or Sharp panels depending on the size (i.e. a 40" Sony HDTV would use a Sony/Samsung panel since Sharp doesn't make a 40" panel, they make a 42" panel). The upcoming 2010 Sony products and beyond will use co-developed panels manufactured at Sharp's facilities.

Thank your for the clarification. For a moment there I thought I was reading fanboy junk rendered in mafia wars language

wait wait wait wait

WTF!!!!

ok im hearing mix reviews

i heard SHAW HD either their channels itself quality sucks or their box sucks

my friend just recently got it and she said it looks fine

so what gives?

should i even pay nearly $100 a month on bullshit HD channels>

underscore 11-24-2009 08:15 AM

well tonnes of providers use the same box, to me Shaw's HD looks great but we only have the first level HD package in a bundle, of course some channels are better than others because some channels compress more when they send it to Shaw ie Spike SD imo looks the worst on an HDTV out of all the channels

Mugen EvOlutioN 11-24-2009 08:58 AM

I went to FS and got a Samsung 52" 750 series
3 layer tv stand
3 yr(or was it 4) warranty
Dynex Surge Power Centre
2 X 8 ft HDMI Monster cables
Included install and assembly and setup

$3030 Taxes included

Good deal?
10 minutes after install. TV defective! flickers etc. I got the replacement TV a month later.

ANyhoo, this TV is incredible! While watching HDMI connected PC porn, u can see the pores on the girls' ass cheeks! I have never fapped so happily in my life! Next time I'll shoot to hit the screen. I sit about 10 feet away. Tori Black I'll see you in a few hours.

Hope you used a lot of KY when you went to FS.

/facepalm.

The warranty you bought is garbage. After the manufacturer's warranty ends the TV will be worth less than what you paid for the extra warranty anyway.

Anyone who buys Monster cables, especially those that know how to use the internet and ESPECIALLY those posting on a board where it is discussed frequently, should be shot in the head.

The install/setup you pay for is usually a waste of money unless you are paying someone to install a speaker setup and even then I certainly wouldn't pay FS anything to do it.

No, not a good deal.

OMG i never thought id see the day someone brags about buying Monster HDMI cables... hahaha what a dumbass... FS plain raped you on that one...

are you an old lady by any chance?

Valour 12-30-2009 10:40 PM

i didn't buy the cables, I haggled to get them and the Power surge bar for free.

Delivery and setup is free, except the assembly of the stand wasn't. $100

Z-Line Venetian 3-in-1 Hybrid Stand $400 - I got it for $100

I also got a $500 rocketfish HDMI wireless thingy for $300

4 Yr Warranty $370 MSRP I got it for $200

2000+100+100+300+200 = 2700 X 1.12 = $3030

Looks to me I saved 300+200+170 = $670 on the package...

That's some mighty fine haggling.

I'm not a fan of extended warranties in general but 4 years for $200 seems pretty reasonable. I definitely wouldn't have paid $370 though.

You can get a credit card that will double your warranty for free. A 4 year warranty is only 3 years because you get one year with the TV.
