Help me chose my new TV

I've narrowed it down to these 3 because they all fit my budget, all are LCD and all are 52". I'm leaning towards the Samsung based on specs, 80000:1 vs 50000:1 going to make a difference? Let me know what you think, BTW this is the top of my budget because I also have to buy a HD PVR box.

the 80000:1 vs 50000:1 is based on the manufacturer claims, i believe it's only useful when comparing the same brand or even just the same series.

Sharp over Samsung? Are you serious? Sharp had a problems with there tv's including banding issues.

Go with a Pioneer if you can find one or a Panny or a Samsung. The top of the line LG led is also up there too.

Sharp is great in LCD tech but their QA has dropped a bit after they outsourced their production to Thailand etc etc. Samsung and Sony are currently the best in the LCD TV segment.

I'm in the market for a new LCD TV as well. Looking around at Visions, the Samsung 610 series seems to keep catching my eye for what I like best. What everyone else suggests is a good place to start, but see what looks best to you because you'll be the one living with it, not other Revscene members.

Generally, Samsung > all, Samsung and Sony use the same screens but Sony has a bunch of upconverting hardware and software added, which is rather pointless if you're getting an HD PVR and play something never than a Gamecube. So you'll usually be able to get more Samsung for the price, but overall it boils down to what looks best to you, if everyones eyes were the same there wouldn't be many TV brands.

Looking at the specs the Samsung has a 2ms advantage over the Toshiba, and 4ms advantage over the Sony, so if you do any gaming or watch any sports that's something to consider. Th Samsung panel and video processors also run at a higher bitrate, I'm not 100% sure how significant that is but mo bits is mo betta.

I'd say go to the store and check them all out, see what you like.

I have the 610B its amazing, couldnt be happier. Its my 3rd Samsung LCD and i wouldnt choose another brand ever. Everyone that comes over is always impressed with the picture quality and most of them have 40-52" Tv's aswell. But say mine looks alot better.
Only shitty part is how quickly the value goes down. I paid 2499 7 months ago

http://gizmodo.com/5407745/a-guide-t...-right-for-you

imo you can't go wrong with any of the three. i don't know why ppl are samsung whores. I know for a fact that employees and companies make more on samsungs, because their cost is unbelievable. I'm not biased to Sony, and I haven't been shopping for TVs lately, but the XBRs really look nicer than the Samsung's or Toshiba's whenever I walk browse around a store. All the ballers tend to get a pioneer plasma (if you can get your hands on one now), or a sony. Not the right place for trends or arguments lol but that might tell you something.

You're right about samsung and sony receiving the same panels though. it's a lot of speculation but I've read that from the same batch, Sony buys the higher quality ones from a batch while Samsung takes the rest, while selling the worst to brands like dynex.

update: another link that helps you decide. these two should be stickied so we don't have to repeat and repeat
don't get hung over specification differences of 1-2ms, 'dynamic' contrast etc. they're pointless. go to the store and stare at them. google up a guide to look at tv's in stores. they like to turn up the brightness and make the ones that they make the most money off of look the best (*cough samsungs).

Thanks everyone!!! I'm probably going to go with the Samsung. One question is that do you think 52inches is to big to watch 8-9 feet away? I plan to play games on it but the guy in the store said you might get dizzy.

There should be an online guide somewhere about the proper viewing distances for each size of TV, my friend keeps his 5ft from the wall because that makes it the proper distance from his couch

man..i would just say get the biggest because in the end you won't stop about the coulda's and shoulda's but since they are all the same size go with the design that you like on the outside...you'll be staring at it for a long time...

^True. My future plan is 52" with a projector screen that drops down overtop (why? well TV for daytime/casual use, projector for nighttime/hardcore use)

The design? As in the frame? Who honestly looks at that? I mean if it was *really* ugly maybe, but otherwise you should be watching the TV not the frame...
