Need professional editor

I have an end of term paper to submit soon, so I was wondering if you've hired a professional editor and your experience. Please post or pm contact info, education, and price. I don't want someone to write my paper for me. I want a good editor so I'm not losing marks for silly errors or major structure problems.

it's a 10 page persuasive essay (double-spaced) for undergraduate class

TIA

U don't need an editor for a 10 page undergrad essay, even if english is your second language. Just work harder.

Which person? If it's Beebeeahn, I want to know why one would just recommend her out of the blue, because I know her personally and I'm pretty sure she doesn't edit papers for fun or profit.

Just take MR_BIGGS' advice, also hit up the people in the same course. Use your peers, and also rageguy's advice. From your OP you don't seem like a complete FOB, so I think you'll be fine. Work hard and good luck!

LOL no i'm not a complete fob, and I got a B and a B+ in first year Eng courses. I'm aiming for an excellent mark here, not a 70%. So far that's all I'm averaging in this course and this assignment can help me pull it up. It's an online course, so interaction between peers is awkward and minimal. Thanks for your suggestions anyhow.

For anyone else interested, I looked on craigslist and emailed someone. It seems rather sketchy although she is better with her words than your normal scammer. I also couldn't find anything about this person on the internet. This is their response:

Hello,

Thank you for your inquiry.

I can get your essay back to you within a couple of days--perhaps Wednesday evening? If you send it to me, I can take a look at it and give you a quote.

I am currently a TOEFL & TOEIC teacher but have taught all levels of English, including literature. In addition to my teaching, I work as a freelance writer for local magazines and online publications. In the past I have co-authored ESL textbooks for advanced learners, and I also have a Master's degree in Creative Writing from UBC.

Here is how I work: you send me an Interac money transfer for the amount I quote you to my email account (probably $50.00 for a ten page essay, less if it's pretty clean). I make line changes to the essay itself and include an explanation for my changes wherever warranted. After that we will have a telephone interview where I may makes some suggestions about structure or your thesis. This will also give you a chance to ask me any questions you may have. If I suggest you do make some changes, I will take a final look at your essay and give you some more feedback.

This process has worked out very well for my clients; they have been happy with my work and have seen an improvement in their grades. If you like, I can ask one of my regular clients to provide a reference to you before we begin, but it might take a couple of days to get a response.

Please let me know if you wish to proceed,

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Darina

I responded:

Thank you for your prompt reply. Would you mind if I paid you in person at your workplace at a time that's convenient for you? We can arrange the details after I submit my essay to you and you provide me with a quote.

Interesting, good to know. Too scam-ish, if you ask me.

Find out her full name and search for her.

People who have a masters will have likely published and as such, you can see her work. When meeting with her IRL, ask her for ID to prove she is who she says she is.

She should at the very least have a interchange UBC e-mail.

Sounds rather fishy. Her e-mail to you has some pretty obvious syntax and grammar mistakes too.

she doesn't sound too reliable. i still think that you should NOT pay for any editing service. your english is fine, as demonstrated here. you are getting a B range in your course, which is actually pretty good. if anything, i still think that you should try out the site i recommended. it's free. and at your current skill level, you are not someone who really needs a proofer.

Dragonone, from your profile info, it seems that you are also from BCIT. Is your essay by any chance for critical reading and writing (libs 7001)? If so, I can gaurantee you that there are only a certain few who will even marginally reach 85% in that course. I believe her standards are unreasonable, but all I can say is good luck on your essay. My topic is on critical pedagogy. What's yours?

She emailed me today, out of the blue:

I came across my letter to you posted on the RevScene. I do not appreciate being identified as a possible scammer on the Internet or having my integrity as a writer and editor questioned in this way. Also, you did not have permission from me to reprint my letter. I could understand your actions if there was something in my behaviour that warranted your suspicions but I don't think there was. I was willing to meet you and I would have even sat down with you and gone over your work with you if you gave any indication that you felt uncomfortable with paying upfront. I understand the fear of getting taken for a ride, especially from advertisements on Craigslist, but you must understand I am afraid of getting taken for a ride as well. I also offered you references and could have sent you any number of links to my work if you had asked. You did not find information on the Internet about me because I write under my maiden name. Most of my editing work has been with students, so this only could have been verified by references, again, which I was willing to give you.

It's very hurtful for me to come across this letter this way. I don't think you meant to imply that I was not above board--only that you were suspicious. But you should have questioned me further if you had any doubts. Anyone who is a decent professional would be able to do that. Next time get your facts straight before you slander someone over the Internet for the world to read.

My response:

Hi Darina,

I apologize if I have offended or slandered you in anyway. I'm sorry.

Having said that, you should really review your 'professional' approaches and how you respond to others. Me posting information to question its legitimacy violates nothing in any terms, because there are no terms in any sort of information exchange listed anywhere from me, or from you. I'm glad you saw that thread, because it simply shows you how other people think about your response and behavior as well. I'm not the only one who thought it was kind of suspicious. If you could have been a little more straightforward about meeting in person and where, I think we could have been in business. Most people that need editing could care less about the cost, it's the result that matters. I'm not sure what kind of people would waste your time or not pay you for your editing services.

For fairness sakes, I'm posting your response and your own back in that thread. If you want anything to be confidential or copyrighted, you need to provide a disclaimer in all of your pertinent communications. Anyone who is a decent professional would be able to do that. Again, I'm sorry if the thread portrayed you as a scammer. It's just a public forum.
