anyone have any recommendations for a compact tripod that would support a dslr? (5dmk2 and 24-70 lens lets say)

i've been lookin at the manfrotto 758B but seems to be too light weight for dslr at only 2.2lb capacity. next was manfrotto 7301YB and the Benro TRA269+BH-1 Ball Head.

edit: the Benro TRA series looks like its pretty decent. Hard time deciding on heads though. Benro B1 head or the Giotto ballheads, however at that price the manfrotto 488 looks great except im not sure if it has the independent pan features like the others:

Gitzo GT1541T + Markins Q3T Ball Head.

Its an expensive setup, but its a setup that will last you forever.

Slik 400 if you're on a budget ($125), Gitzo Traveller if you're willing to spend $800+.

yea $800 + is a bit pricey for me. but i do love the ditzos =( i'll looke into the slik. is the benro one not good? its the perfect size and i want a ball head for compactness

I've never seen a benro, so I can't offer an opinion. They seem to be ok for the price, but to me it's not a proven product line.

I have the 785B. It's not bad and I'm sure there's better ones out there. I use it with my Xsi and a 17-55 and it seems sufficiently stable. I tried it briefly (i.e. mounted it at home) with a 70-200f4 and it seems alright but I haven't really had a chance to try it outside. It's legs are 4 section so it's not going to be as stable as your larger tripods but then again, you sacrifice some stability for portability.

The best feature about it is that it's very portable and relatively light (it easily fits into a small backpack).

ya i wanted this but the supported weight seems a bit low.

what about the gorilla pod? looks pretty compact when you bend the legs and pretty good price?

Gorilla Pod is great for places you can't setup a tripod but it's kind of small for it to be free standing. The DSLR one is still pretty expensive though...(isn't it around $50+?)

Yeah, it's not quite as sturdy as a full size tripod, but it can definitely hold up my camera and won't tip over or shake.
