RX 7 is coming back! RX-8 replacement will revive legendary name and use next-generation rotary engine http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/images/..._343873_25.jpg http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/images/..._343870_25.jpg It's the Mazda that’sguaranteed to send rivals into a spin! These illustrations are the bestyet of the forthcoming RX-7– an all-new two-seater sports car, completewith a turbocharged rotary engine. Although this model will be anatural successor to the RX-8, the logical RX-9 badge is to be shunnedin favour of RX-7 – evoking memories of the rear-wheel-drive Mazdaproduced in various forms between 1978 and 2002. Reports fromJapan have revealed that new design chief Ikua Maeda has alreadysketched plans for the next RX-7, and is said to be pushing thethree-door model to the firm’s board of directors. Mazda has chosen touse the light and compact Renesis 16X Wankel engine – the same unit asfitted to 2007’s Taiki concept car. With an equivalentcapacity of 1.6 litres to improve torque, and the addition of aturbocharger to boost power beyond 300bhp, the RX-7 will be much moresporty than the RX-8. By sticking with a rotary engine, Mazdawill ensure the model can be adapted to run on hydrogen in future.Plus, it would retain the RX-8’s appeal as the only rotary-engined carin production. Rumours that an RX-7 concept could debut atOctober’s Tokyo Motor Show came to nothing; it may not appear untilnext year’s event. A production model would then follow early in 2011. it still looks like an RX-8... |
God I hope not. That thing is fucking ugly as shit and doesn't deserve to have the rx7 title on it. |
Interesting. Better not look anything like that concept drawing, though. Talk about hideous... |
some aspects of it are pretty cool, i like the rear end however the windshield looks abnormally large |
meh il wait till more solid info comes out like the cough cough supra replacement, cough cough nsx replacement that theyve been talking about for years |

Front looks like an RX8, rear looks like some BMW. |
Nasty |
ugly, still like the FD3S instead |
whats up with mazda and the retarded smile looking front end |
Furai !!!!!!!!!!!!! they should make that =( |
the FD was so damn good looking it will be hard to create a worthy revival for it IMO and to Renesis, I TOTALLY agree. damn their cars loook retarted with the LOL front end |
that's a weird looking exhaust |
|
I think we can all agree the rear looks like a BMW. Front is more like Acura grill, Mazda 6 lights and lower grill and general shape is Sky or Solstice-esque. http://www.autospectator.com/cars/fi...urn-Sky-03.jpg |
get rid of the smile plzzz |
Damn that's disgusting.. |
Is it just me or does the front really resemble the new TL's? |
dont ruin the RX-7 badge please! name this thing the RX-9 dammit! |
DO NOT WANT!!! I'd rather take an FD please...also RX-7 and GT-R are historically considered as rivals, at least in Japan. Can that thing match up with GT-R's performance? I doubt it. |

Aside from the front grill, i actually like the overall shape |
im surprised they didnt decide to make this an expensive supercar like the japanese have recently been doing |
I like it. Looks like it takes styling cues from the SA22 rear and FD3S front. |
