Parked cars with a cone on the roof? (UBC marine drive, arthur liang) For all road users out there (especially UBC-ers), have you all noticed lately that there are cars sitting in the middle of the island on the way into UBC on marine drive? They are usually some sort of sedan (accord, protege), with a cone sitting on top of the roof with two people in it... I also saw one at the end of arthur liang bridge heading into richmond (at the YVR airport sign) anyone have any idea what this is all about? this has been bugging me for a while cuz its pretty random...lol |
maybe they r recovering the trees due to wind throw? no idea or maybe looking for a free parking..who knows.. |

ya i saw that today too thought it was a new kinda ghost car but y the fck would they put a huge cone on top of the roof?? it was like a beige protege sedan today, with 2 men sitting inside... looked sketch |
pics? |
it's been there for a long time now. i noticed these cars on the ubc highway for the past month. there are people sitting in them too. i think it may be a police strategy to get people to slow down. |
usually construction workers put cones on top of their cars when they are working.. to let city know they are construction workers. But rageguy's idea seems legit. |
and its Arthur LAING. |
I'm pretty sure they have something to do with traffic-flow statistics |
I've also noticed a 1.6 EL with a cone on its roof hiding in the bush on Knight bridge southbound as well. I think they have something to do with traffic-flow / speed statistics cuz if you look carefully, there are some newly installed "air tubes" on the ground across the lanes, right at where those hidden cars are |
they've been doing that for years now, saw one last night just before oak bridge north bound..... no idea why tho... |
no clue what u guys are talking about... |
yea its Arthur Laing not Liang. (pronounced "Lane") |

According to my friend who was also doing that, They are helping the police to monitor traffic speed. (i.e. keeping an eye on cars going at speed, they have direct contact to an advisory police officer) |
its pronounced exactly as its spelled....arthur....lay-ing :) |
they are surveying to increase the speed limit of the city |
