Flaky sellers on RS?

So, I have been a forum shopper for quite some time now. Having bought many items through the honda-tech, RS, team-integra, vancouvercivics, usedvictoria and craigslist many times without incident, I have been struck with a string of flaky sellers who seem to be without even the simplest courtesy for others. There have been 3 such incidents of this happen to me in the last 2 weeks. All 3 were from RS buy/sell. I am not bashing RS, just a certain few people whom I won't name.

As I live in Victoria, and almost EVERYTHING is located in Vancouver, any reason for flaking out on a sale costs me 130$ for the ferry, about 30$ for gas, a budget for meals, and having to clear my schedule for a day. Because of this if the seller is suddenly unavailable at the last minute, I am personally out about 200$. This is what happened to me today...

Contacted seller yesterday and exchanged a few PM's ending with him saying he'll call me around 4 pm after he's off work and with me making the trip from Victoria to Vancouver today in order to pick up a steering wheel for the full asking price. I spent the latter part of the day waiting for seller to contact me which he never did. I never even received a courtesy call or text saying he was busy or somebody offered a higher price. I then sent him a couple PM's during the early evening saying I was from out of town and would be catching the 9pm ferry back to Victoria and that he contact me as soon as possible. Even though his profile showed him browsing several different RS pages I still never received a response.

Also, on the same trip, I was supposed to purchase a set of wheels and tires off another fellow. We had exchanged a few PM's and a phone call which we talked about the specifics. I had offered him a price of 75$ below his asking price and he agreed. I also mentioned to him that unless he was gonna save it for me I did not want it as it takes me a couple of days to plan a trip and as you all know a lot can happen in a couple days. He agreed to that also. The evening before I was to go over I SMS'ed him to confirm the trip and to get his address. He replied saying it was sold for a higher price. Well, I've got nothing against him making more money off a used part. Heck, I'd like more money too, however, we had a verbal agreement and had stated explicitly that if you're not gonna keep it for me I don't want it as it takes too much time and money to make the trip for nothing. So seller breaks verbal agreement, probably wouldn't have told me they were sold till I had arrived if I hadn't contacted him, and didn't even give me a chance to counter his other offer.

So, in the end, my trip that originally was supposed to pick up a steering wheel and a set of rims ended up as a giant waste of time and money.

I accept that all things in life can't go the way you want them to. But, if the sellers showed just common courtesy, I would have been saved a lot of money, headache and running around. I think people recognize that just because they're typing into a computer screen, there is another person on the other side.

Just needed to vent. LoL.

why not let the buyer know you're coming from victoria and be persistent and firm that they have to be on-time/present.
why not set up a time and date, not give me a call when you get off work

or else in the future pay and bit more and get them to ship things to you...honestly you probably save more than pay $75 for the ferry ride coming here.

bigassbooger 11-25-2009 11:38 PM

why dont you just get it shipped to victoria wouldn't it save you money and time?

RenoMan 11-25-2009 11:51 PM

or just buy from a member with a good record?

JSALES 11-25-2009 11:54 PM

that's happened to me before, go through all that shit and they flake out last minute

JulyZerg 11-25-2009 11:55 PM

Post their RS names!

CrimC 11-25-2009 11:59 PM

Trust me, the first thing I do is to make sure they know I'm coming from the island. I PM'ed after he said he'll call me after work but no reply. Gave him the benefit of the doubt, but that turned against me. Well, I'm not gonna name name's but I was looking at buying an "suede OMP steering wheel" and a set of "17" sparco wheels".

Also, most people are too lazy to drive to richmond from burnaby to meet up. What makes you think they'll go through the trouble of wrapping and shipping.

got_boost 11-26-2009 12:16 AM

Vancouver to Victoria shipping 4 rims mount and balanced with tires you are easily looking at $100 via Greyhound, plus the fact the seller would need to package and protect the rims for shipping. Also you'd be purchasing site unseen on the condition of wheels. Shipping the steering wheel $15-$20 on Canada Post, same thing buying without seeing the item. Shipping cost would be almost equivalent of CrimC going to Vancouver to pick up and inspect the items for purchase.

JulyZerg 11-26-2009 12:19 AM

Found one of them.. LOL

That fking blows. Maybe they have a differnt side to the story *but i doubt it*

Well, i guess next time you got to make DAMn sure that the person is not going to flake.

Sorry to hear about your experience and I agree, purchase from people who have good feedback or have a good rep on this forum.

CivicTypeRice 11-26-2009 12:46 AM

I have sold many items on RS, but sadly no one has left me a feedback thread.

i usually pm the member to help fill mine out as i return the favor, if they don't have a thread yet i'll start it.

for the OP, you should start a feedback thread for that member and obviously in your case it would start with NEGATIVE feedback.

El Bastardo 11-26-2009 05:25 AM

Let the folks at the Buy & Sell forum know. Simple as that.

RFlush 11-26-2009 06:09 AM

I am sorry to hear about this. Fucking Alphamale is a douche for doing this to you, he should be banned for wasting your time.

Mugen EvOlutioN 11-26-2009 07:07 AM

rs or craigs, flakers are everywhere
:(

Jsunu 11-26-2009 07:23 AM

I hate those sellers who treat their sales as auctions and do not indicate that they are courting other offers. For example, I attempted to buy the rims at the price indicated by the seller, but he told me that it as still on his car and it will take a couple of days to take it off. That is fine, but what had happened is that the sold the rims to another buyer for a higher price without even informing me, completely wasting my time and my excitement for them.

In another incident, the seller listed the price for another item and once again I offered at the price given. This time, he immediately raised the price for no reason, then started courting offers with mutiple buyers once again.

Both incidences occurred from the same seller.

Now I am ok with people doing this as long as they are complicit with the buyer that this is going to be the case.

GLOW 11-26-2009 07:23 AM

i know the feeling. you'd think that you're all on the same forum they'd show a bit more courtesy or responsibility

CRS 11-26-2009 07:29 AM

Again, the reiterate the entire thread.

CHECK RS BUY A& SELL RATINGS.

This is one of the major reasons why I prefer to sell via RS than craigslist. At the very least, I know that I am selling to a reputable person.

quasi 11-26-2009 07:45 AM

Offer them double but make the meet up point at the ferry terminal. Pull a no show and you've got your revenge. I hate flakers.

hotjoint 11-26-2009 08:34 AM

sorry to hear, yeah I hate flakers. I'm a very punctual person and when I buy stuff off rs or craigslist, I let people know that I'm coming from surrey and can only come down the weekends if its in the van, bby, richmond, n van areas. I always get their phone # so I can make sure that if anything goes wrong we can get in contact right away. Also on the day of or before I head down, I call them to confirm that we're still on. I find this helps alot as it reminds them that we're still good to go or it gives them time to let me know if something is up and they can't make it. You can't really depend on people so I make sure that I have everything covered. Even if you have everything covered, some unforseen circumstances happen like the seller doesnt show even after you've called them 30 mins before and you call them again once they dont show and they dont pick up after. Just gotta take a loss sometimes to try to get a deal. Shit happens man, and it sucks but what else can you do right?

shenmecar 11-26-2009 08:48 AM

Oh man that sucks. Did you at least bring a friend to talk to? I would be bored out of my mind if I had to wait for a call from a seller who never calls back and I'm a ferry ride away from home.

Another thing I hate is that the seller/buyer being like 30 mins late.

Nvasion 11-26-2009 09:39 AM

this is why i usually only buy from sellers with a good name...... 90% of the time i wont buy from a newb.

dizzystar 11-26-2009 09:42 AM

dude,

this is revscene. as I've said multiple times this place is a shithole with retards with sub par IQ's working in mcdonalds modifying their cars and trying to race corvettes. young, dumb, and full of cum, I don't expect shit from this site, you shouldnt either.

some dumb shits seem to get off on the fact that you wasted so much time, they either decide to keep it (without telling you) or have already sold it (without telling you) or are just too fucking lazy to bother to respond. There aint no such thing as curteousy anymore.

Fuck resvcene.

When this happens report it. Sellers arent supposed to be raising prices like that, this isnt ebay. Post a price and stick to it.

Hell, the smarter thing to do would be to post a HIGHER price FIRST, then if you get no bites, lower the price
