The car turning left probably didn't even see the cop car coming. The speed limit was 65kmph... so before he turned left, he probably looked like a block ahead, which is where you would normally need to check, and didn't see any cars there. Little did he expect that there would be someone travelling almost 160kmph bearing down on him. Probably at the moment he looked to see if there were any cars coming, the cop car was still like more than two blocks away, so it wasn't even in the zone of where you would normally check for oncoming cars. |

^^^ that's why you don't flash your lights. not here in north america anyway where it could mean a multitude of things. in europe, it's a different story with the flashing of lights meaning, move out of the way. here, you make the definite act of laying on the horn. that'll be not misconstrued in any way, shape, or form. |

As for the buses, they flash their lights as a thank you, not as a GTFO way. The only universally accepted time that flashing your high beams is clearly "GO!" is when they are behind you and flashing you. |
^^^ i think a lot of it is context too. in your example, with both parties staring at each other for 10seconds, a flash of the lights does indicate "you go first" in north america. still, when a car is in the opposing lane of traffic and you're about to cut across its path to make a left turn and he's flashing his lights at you and he doesn't seem to be slowing down... you'd get confused here in north america. does he mean go? does he mean watch out? in europe at least, that would mean watch out. here in n. america, it's not so clear. i think because of the ambiguity of high beams/low beams, we CANNOT depend on them as indicators of other drivers' intentions on the road. laying on the horn is definite. these are things you learn real quick, esp. when you ride your (motor)bike in a non-bike cultured city. |

i didn't know it could be perceived in other in the context of coming to a non stop sign intersection, learn something new everyday. What I do is I flash my lights if relatively dark out, lots of cars/big truck on the left and I couldn't even see if there are any left turn cars, I would slow down and flash my light hopefully the reflection would let the also blinded would be left turner knows there is a car coming. If I have clear view of the intersection and as I'm approaching the left turn car seem like he wants to turn or already have its head stick out way too far I would honk. You're right honking is definite but i'm the type that reserves honking to when i absolutely need too or if i'm really really really really really piss. |
has anyone said fucking pigs yet? This is revscene and all cops are fucking pigs according to everyoen on this site. |
fucked up |
i agree that the police officer shouldn't have been speeding but I will have to agree with some people that the left turner shouldn't have made that turn regardless of how fast the officer was going. It's obvious that the officer was braking when he saw the car turn left. I would like to point out that he was already basically entering the intersection when the car decided to turn left.... Also, I am pretty sure the police officer had head lights, and it's not like it was so foggy to see head lights of a car coming at you especially one that's at the beginning of the intersection when you decide to make that left. |

Hi-beams constant on = "Don't Go" Generally speaking of course |
Only at a 4 way stop do I ever flick my lights on and off to tell the other driver to go. At a light controlled intersection, if you ain't stopping you best me laying on the horn. The cop should not have been going that fast. |
holy crap! GG. |
for the flashing beam thing I think what you should do is hold the high beam up if you just want to make the left turner see you coming. If you turn the highbeam on throughout the intersection I think that leaves no room for misunderstanding. Flashing could be disastrous....potentially. |
isn't it in the L book that you flash your highbeams to pass? |
2 counts of manslaughter? That'll turn into nothing more than a slap on the wrist.. |
what were they street racing? |
this is what happens when cops street race ...ftl vtec just kicked in yo |
suspended with pay. |
