Ford to revise base model Mustang's V6 for 2010 model

Here's the current 2009 engine..
4.0L, V6, 210hp, 240lb-ft

the new one will get
3.7L, V6, 305hp, 280lb-ft

the Mustang GT will get
4.6L V8, 315hp, 325lb-ft

the point of this post is...umm, I don't know if Mustang GT is that much attractive compare to the base model.
considering added price, weight, fuel consumption, insurance, etc...

I wanna see them running side by side and see which one is faster and handles better

Meowjin 11-30-2009 02:01 PM

extra 45 torque.

shenmecar 11-30-2009 02:36 PM

shove the turbo SHO engine in the V6 mustang and it WILL outperform the V8 one. LOL.

CPE 11-30-2009 02:37 PM

The GT is getting a new engine aswell. Its rumoured to be a 5.0 litre with around 400 horsepower.

ilvtofu 11-30-2009 02:38 PM

yay!
that 4.0L V6 was a piece of shit,
Forgot which magazine this was but
"performance of a japanese 4 cyl, fuel economy of a german V8"

4 valves per cylinder doesn't sound like much but damn  to ford for this new V6, in a way the V8's figures are quite dated, but hey its priced well and sounds great :D

too_slow 11-30-2009 03:07 PM

I was hoping for the 3.5 Ecoboost engine.

Which car takes top honours for most HP/$ now ? Camaro, Mustang, or the 3.8 Genesis Coupe?

!Aznboi128 11-30-2009 04:02 PM

that GT needs an upgrade 315 wont run with anyone

good to hear the V6 gets a upgrade

that V6 4.0 is a joke, a 4.0 only makes 210hp? lolllll and only 240 pounds of torque

no wonder my boss's stang feels slow as hell

I disagree and I believe even the current spec GT runs well with most new cars in its price range especially when you consider the potential discounts you can get on one.

Currently:
4.0L, V6, 210hp, 240lb-ft
4.6L V8, 315hp, 325lb-ft

Upcoming:
3.7L, V6, 305hp, 280lb-ft
3.5L, V6TT, 365hp, 365lb-ft
and/or
5.0L, V8, ~400hp, ~400lb-ft (coyote)

The Shelby version of the 5.0L V8 will probably get a Twin Turbo in lieu of the traditional supercharger...

The 6.2L V8 is the one going in the SVT Raptor F150 off-road pickup.
The 6.8L diesel is 'the scorpion' going into the new F350 pickup.

Rich Sandor 11-30-2009 06:16 PM

There's 0% interest finance up to 5years on mustangs right now. IF ONLY I could order a 2011 GT with the coyote.. I'd get my employee pricing + zero percent... that would be a WICKED deal.

Solo_D33A 11-30-2009 07:20 PM

Damn, no wonder the GT's slow, it barely have more power than my 98 GS400

ilvtofu 11-30-2009 07:59 PM

GT's are slow?!?!?! 5 sec 0-60 is "slow"?

bimmer91 11-30-2009 08:03 PM

2009 engine
4.0L, V6, 210hp, 240lb-ft

FAIL

4L engine for a car that only puts out 210 is quite sad...

Chevrolet FTMFW.

Rich Sandor 11-30-2009 08:18 PM

^ Yep it's weak, that's why the V6 has always been the wifey's Mustang.

That will all change in 2011. The Mustang has always outsold the Camaro, and will continue to do so after this year's Camaro buzz wears off.

mmmm the base model mustang makes pretty good power now

i drove a 2010 GT and i must say, it makes my G35 feel gimped.
the steering was odd though. but for a 315 hp car the clutch was really soft and easy to get used to. As well the noise from it was pretty seductive. my only gripe, not enough wheel spin from the stock 275's in the back.

for 38k it's quite a bit for a GT, and there's different packages to add just to have better brakes.

These American Pony cars, are suppose to have lots of power doing quarter mile. But still cheap enough for all of those in high school to have a used one and show off.

At 315hp, it's not bad. But comparing to a lighter car, with less power, independent suspension, I'm sure the Mustang wont make it far

i posted this a few months back:

wah.... details? for a base 5spd GT, how much do you have to put down up front? how much monthly?

too_slow 12-01-2009 08:03 AM

I rented a V6 convertible pony car on my Hawaii trip back in 2007. Despite hating the steering on the car tremendously (reminded me of my old Chevy Tahoe - very light, and not very linear), I had tons of fun with it. The exhaust note sounded mean, and the acceleration was pretty decent. The 'shaker' system pounded my gangster tunes pretty hard.

I can't wait to rent a 2011 V6 convertible next time I go vacationing :D

too_slow 12-01-2009 08:04 AM

BTW, was it Hertz that offers a GT V8, and the C6 Corvette in their fleet (in the states)?

you were luckier than me. i had a coupe not the convertible... and of course, it was an automatic

too_slow 12-01-2009 08:38 AM

^Haha.. I actually lucked out with my booking. I had originally booked a Pontiac G6, and they were sold out when I got there(I arrived on Christmas eve).. They offered a Jeep YJ and the pony convertible.. Guess which one I had picked..

Mine was a slush box too, but I drove it like a manual.. LOL
