No, VI's are treated as VI's whether the car is from USA or another province. It will only be different in the sense that on your registration it will say US Import (or something) instead of Canadian Import like if it was from Ontario.
I think. Just take it to an approved mechanic shop

apparently it needs a provincial AND a Federal inspection to be road worthy and the only place that does federal is canadian tire...
Does anyone know if I can put a day permit on it??

canadian tire does provincial along with federal i think. u can only get a TOP (Temporary Operation Permit) that grants u ONE trip from POINT A to POINT B. unless u passed inspections and get it registered, then u can get a day permit/regular insuranceand whatever
whole thingis a pain in the ass

thats how its looking. I guess I bought myself a offroad buggy only that needs to be trailered which makes it hard because I still need a permit for offroading.

The Federal inspection is pretty pointless. You drive through their bay, don't get out of the car and basically confirm you have DRLs. They might check your odometer to see if it reads in KPH.

Find a reputable shop and have them to the provincial inspection first. Then go to Canadian Tire for the federal. The reason you want to get the provincial first is so your shop can do any necessary work to bring the vehicle up to standards. Although Canadian Tire has the contract to do federal, it doesn't mean they have to actualy perform the work - they only have to inspect it.
Canadian Tire doesn't charge you anything. Their fee is already included as part of the other import fees you would have paid.
Your speedometer doesn't need to read in kilometres. If it was made to federal standards (for example, car made for US market) and only reads in MPH that's OK. Previously you needed to change the speedometer (or the face) but they have since removed that condition.
BTW, there are still independent shops that can do federal inspections. Mainly shops that deal in things like buses or commercial vehicles, and manufacturers or shops that were grandfathered. But most of these don't want to fool around doing private vehicle inspections.

My federal inspection was pretty easy to pass... drl's and child safety seat anchor were the only mods I needed to make, tho I dunno why I needed the anchor in a 2 seater.
The provincial one is where they go through everything. Failed the first time because my front rotors were just below spec
