Olympic parking restrictions

I recently saw signs going up in a Vancouver residential neighborhood stating : "No Parking- Except Vehicles registered to this block. (Tow away) FEB 12-FEB 28, MAR 12-MAR 21"
There is only a Impound yard phone no. on the sign

However, there are no mention in how to register your vehicle for the block.
I search the City Of Vancouver website and there are no mention of it either.

Anybody know??

wouldn't "registered to this block" state that your vehicle's insurance papers would show you live on that specific street? how would that not be understandable?

It's just like the parking during the PNE time,it's up to the homeowner to call the vehicles in.

Atleast that's what I was told anyways.

actually no,

you need to go to cityhall to buy a special window sticker, which costs more $$$, which isnt covered by ur property tax. tow trucks dont have computers, they could care less if the car really does belong to the household. to them, tow first, ask later. worse case, the car DOES belong to the household, and the owner has to come down to the tow yard which either has to pay for the "parking" at the tow yard, or the car comes out for free, which they can claim the expenses to the city.

people who is living at or around granville street / downtown already have these stickers on their windshield. I don't think you can just go to city hall to register your car. You should actually have a pass already.

There's no point in even wasting your time.

Those people are so brainwashed by Vanoc and are so clueless to all the negative impact the olympics is doing to everyone, the olympic commitee could come by and crush their home, build a urinal for athletes, and they will still think it's a good idea and everyone will benefit from it......including themselves.

See, the barcodes on the license plates. City workers can scan the car and see if it is registered under the house address. It is also used to check if your license plate/car is insured.(VIN check etc etc).

Residential Parking during the Olympics

With the Olympics and Paralympics approaching in February 2010, preparations are being made to protect residential parking by installing dated Olympic 'Resident Parking Only' signs in areas close to the Hillcrest and Pacific Coliseum Olympic venues.

Signs that read "No Parking except vehicles registered to this block" have been temporarily installed on several streets close to the Olympic venues. These signs are intended to protect parking for residents and to discourage spectators from driving to and parking their cars on residential streets around Olympic venues during the Games.

During the dates posted on the signs:

* Pacific Coliseum - Feb 12-28, 2010
* Hillcrest - Feb 12-28 and Mar 12-21, 2010

only residential vehicles with car insurance that is registered to the applicable block will be able to park on these restricted streets. Residents whose car insurance reflects an address on a closed Olympic security route will also be able to park within (1-2 blocks) of their homes in the residentially restricted areas. Full time "Resident Parking Only" (RPO) and "Resident Permit Parking" (RPP) zones will also be strictly enforced during this time. Vehicles parked on streets with any posted residential restrictions require car insurance that is registered to their address on that block to avoid being ticketed and/or towed.

Off Street Parking

During Games time, we encourage residents to use any off street parking (e.g. driveways, garages, underground parking) that is available to them.
Insurance which is not registered to home addresses

Some residents will have circumstances which do not allow for their car insurance to be registered to their home address (e.g. company cars, principal operators of cars registered to another address, homecare providers, duel residences). We will offer these residents a temporary permit, at no charge, that will be available at City Hall as of January 11, 2010 for residents who meet the following criteria:
Company Cars

Current ICBC registration in company name, two items featuring the resident’s address in the residential zone, one of which must have a recent date (e.g.. hydro, cable, telephone bill) and a letter on company letterhead indicating the license plate of the vehicle to verify that the resident is the principal operator.
Principal Operator

Current ICBC registration indicating that the resident is the principal operator of the vehicle and two items featuring the resident’s address in the residential zone, one of which must have a recent date (e.g. hydro, cable, telephone bill).
Dual Residence

Current vehicle registration featuring the primary address outside the Lower Mainland and two items featuring the resident’s address from both addresses one of which must have a recent date (e.g. hydro, cable, telephone bill).
Homecare

Current vehicle registration of homecare provider, two items featuring the resident’s address in the residential zone, one of which must have a recent date (e.g. hydro, cable, telephone bill) and a recently dated doctor’s note that the vehicle operator provides regular homecare services to the resident.
Rental Cars & Courtesy Cars for residents

Current rental vehicle contract or courtesy car registration two items featuring the resident’s address from both addresses (one of which must have a recent date (e.g. hydro, cable, telephone bill).
Temporary visitor permits

We will also sell one temporary visitor permit to residents with out-of-town guests during Games time at $10.00 per week. In order to purchase a temporary visitor permit, the resident or visitor will have to provide a copy of the vehicle registration showing license plate and residency outside the Lower Mainland (Gulf Islands other than Bowen, north of Whistler, east of Chilliwack, south of the U.S. border) along with two items featuring the resident’s address in the residential zone, one of which must have a recent date (e.g. hydro, cable, telephone bill).

Please note: We do not issue visitor permits for guests that live within the Lower Mainland
Enforcement

Strict enforcement of streets with posted Olympic residential signing will occur only during the dates indicated on the signs. Regular residential restrictions (RPO & RPP) will continue to apply and will be enforced as normal during as well as outside of the Olympic dates. In the Hillcrest area, please note that the current time-limited RPO regulations (9am-6pm) and time limited RPP (2 hour Except with Permit) will be expanded during Games time when additional Olympic residential signing will apply. Once the Games are over, Olympic residential signing will be removed shortly and the streets will be returned to their pre-Games state. Residents with vehicles that display a valid area permit are considered already registered to the block and can park anywhere within the applicable permit zone.

So basically if you want to visit your friend during those dates near those venues, you will have to park in their garage otherwise you will get towed for visiting your buddy. =_=

That is the biggest scam evar.

what if you rent a place and your insurance is registered to a different address??

WTF

But its also good in a way that no car will take up the parking spaces infront of your house, knowing how pissed off some members on this forum can get when their "parking spot" is taken up by a visitor to your neighbor.

It was pretty bad when the PNE was on, i had trouble finding parking infront of my place.

I guess just make sure your ass's covered somehow, and your good to go.

Then you would probably be able to get a free parking pass as a Principal Operator, I would assume that if you are renting a place, you would have bills going to the rental address (eg...cell phone, bank statements, cable/hydro):
